View Full Version : the Mind is source of Sexual Sin or Freedom

I believe addiction deals with a person's mindset, I found something concerning it from the bible.
I used to be addicted badly, but i have found relieve with this.
Sexually Sin always begin from the mind, think about the last time you sinned.

First you had a Scene, a thought came into your mind.
Then you had a Scenario, when you entertain that thought for too long.
Then you produce Sin, because you act on the Scenario by watching porn or mast...

This was the process with me, and i have a feeling that it is the same with every one.
So what is really going on behind the scene, and how do we break free?

Well paul said, "with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin"
"warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." (Rom 7:25/23)

We see that the law of sin works through our flesh to break through our minds to make us sin.
Everything in you wants to serve the Law of God, but because in your flesh dwelleth no good thing (Rom 7:18).
You are always fighting with the Flesh. And the enemy comes and brings scenes in our mind, and if we entertain and think on those scenes.
They turn into scenarios in our mind and before you know it, we act them out in the natural, with our body.
But how do we break through? Well we definitely cannot fulfill this with our flesh.
Because the bible says 'they that are in the flesh cannot please God' (Rom 8:8)

But How do we do it?
"For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." (Rom 8:5)

If we mind things of the Spirit, we will never fall into sin. When those scenes arrive, no matter what situation it is.
We must cast them out and think about the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Rom 8:6)

In conclusion, the bible says if ye let your mind live after the flesh, ye shall die:
but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live (Rom 8:13).

Abundant-Life can only be found by living a life in the Spirit.
And we have a promise from God that if we "walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Gal 7:16)
If our mind is set after the flesh we will fail, but if our mind is set on God we will be victorious.

the Mind is source of Sexual Sin or Freedom

Both. Depends on who an Individual serves, GOD or mammon.

How does one 'walk in the Spirit?'

The more I seek him the less I want to seek things that can hurt me (all of my sin nature hurts me) or that makes me want to run and hide from him. I want to do things that grow my relationship with Him. I do not have to earn his love, I have always had it. I just want to be closer.

So how do you walk in the Spirit, and how do you get your mind on Spiritual things?

My mind has been struggling with either sexual fantasies or things involving death or violent themes, since I was a teenager. I'm almost 40 now. So talk about a strong hold. I know nothing is too hard for God. Jesus already accomplished everything on the Cross for my victory. My mind and emotions are real difficult for me to overcome. Need help.

Welcome! Great question.

We have practiced our sins and the life that goes with it. I believe that God gives us tools that we need to practice with that removes our physical and mental bondage and then becomes part of our testimony to help others. This becomes part of the blessing of freedom.

Does your church have on staff Christian counselors? It would be good to talk to a professional.

In the meantime, I have found that I can talk to my Father and ask him to help me change the channels in my brain. I then think about something else. I also found that it helps me to find some part of the day to read some scripture. Christian radio in the car (music, teachers, and preachers) help bathe my brain in some healthy things used for healing.

God bless you and yours.

In order to walk in the Spirit we must walk by faith, and true faith brings about action. We must recognize and discern between good and evil. When evil is discerned we must make the decision by faith to obey God's word. What bladers described is 100% accurate.

The mind can be influenced by two things: 1) the flesh, or 2) the Spirit

And as Galatians 5:17 tells us, these two are contrary to one another.

The devil works by providing the temptation. If our mind is listening or focused on the flesh we will be drawn away from the Lord and into sin. If our mind, by faith, hears God's word and chooses to reject those carnal desires (crucify the flesh) then we are walking in the Spirit.

During times of temptation we must realize that one of two things is going to happen: 1) We're going to eventually sin, or 2) We're going to seek the Lord and receive grace in our time of need.

Choosing the first option will bring about consequences that are very unfavorable. Choosing the second option will keep our minds free from bondage (e.g. depression, fear, guilt, condemnation, etc.).

If we enter in to the throne room boldly we will receive His help in time of need. Only through seeking Him will we overcome sin. Without Him we will undoubtedly fail in some form or fashion. Many Christians today try to overcome sin in their own power. This leads to repeated failures because while the spirit is willing the flesh is weak. Unless we seek Him we will fall over and over again.

We must by faith do exactly what Paul stated in 2 Corinthians 10 . . .

2 Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

By faith we use the weapons God has provided. He's given us a sword that can attack these strongholds (His word), and He will supply us with armor to protect us from the attacks of the enemy (Ephesians 6:14-18).

Lastly, we must realize and believe that when we are tempted there is a spirit at work and this spirit is not of God . . . it is of the enemy.

Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

We must remember that there are spirits coming against us during these times, and if we choose to obey them then we make ourselves subject to them and all the adverse consequences they would like to bring in our lives. However, if we walk by faith knowing that He has made available to us authority over these spirits . . . then we can walk above our enemy's tactics and trickery making him powerless against us.

I do think that it all starts with our thoughts. And I don't believe that thoughts are created in a vacuum and appear out of nowhere and for no good reason.

Random, uncontrolled thoughts are never random. They're caused by something. They have their root somewhere.

According to the Bible, they can come from within (as a man thinks in his heart, so is he). They can be planted there by the enemy. They can be caused by us exposing ourselves, or being exposed to certain environments (good or bad).

We already know that the Bible tells us to actively think on good things. Because we can only think one thought at a time, and if we learn to direct our own thinking habits instead of them directing us, then that's one step closer to victory.

I also think that thoughts that invoke certain feelings are often reacted to by other negative feelings, such as guilt or shame. We all have our own mechanisms, right?

I have found that if I allow myself to actually feel my feelings, examine them as to their origin, and actively take them to God in prayer, freedom is usually around the corner. The thoughts that are within myself, that is how I deal with them. The thoughts that come from without, that's how I deal with them too ("wait a minute, where did that come from? Lord, what do you think about this?"). And the thoughts that come from having exposed myself to certain environments ... well, don't go back to exposing yourself, then. Choose to expose yourself to positive, godly influences, reading material, visual material. etc. We only have 24 hours in one day. If we actively choose to learn to control our own thoughts and choose to direct them, instead of allowing them to control us, then I think that half the battle will already be won. :)
