I recently gave part of my testimony in another thread, about how reading the first chapter of John in the Living Bible is how I came to know the Lord.
So, Karenmot and I got to talking and thought it would be good to do a study on that chapter of John, and maybe even more of John. Anyone else interested in joining us?

I would certainly be honored to study with you ladies! I have a LOT to learn and it would really help to have more experienced Bible readers to help explain things! Even if I don't contribute a lot, know that I will be reading and studying along with all of you!

Wow! I am so glad so many want to study John with me!I couldn't find the Living Bible on line, and I'm not a typist (lol) so I wanted to be able to cut and paste. Therefore I have chosen to use the New Living Translation, instead of the original paraphrase, that I got saved with.
Please feel free to interject any other versions, if you feel it clarifies the point better. This is supposed to be an interactive Bible study thread, so please give any input you wish and feel free to ask questions!!

1 In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn't make.
4 Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone.
5 The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
6 God sent John the Baptist
7 to tell everyone about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.
8 John himself was not the light; he was only a witness to the light.
9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was going to come into the world.
10 But although the world was made through him, the world didn't recognize him when he came.

I know that we have all read this many times, and most people don't find these three verses all that inspiring, but when I first was coming to Christ, these 3 verses just blew my mind. Christ not only is eternal in the future sense, but He's always been there!! That just really opened up my spirit to realize that. And to realize that He was part of everything being created and being brought into existance!!
Amplified
John 1:1 IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
John 1:2 He was present originally with God.
John 1:3 All things were made {and} came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

I know that Susie likes the Living Bible and the modern translations, but I always have to read any passage in the New King James (no judgement on anyone, just my own personal prejudice!)
So Susie will post the NLT, and I'll post the NKJV.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
I remember when I first read this many many years ago, I was in awe! "In the beginning..." The idea that it was the beginning of everything, and the Word of God already existed! And not only that, but it says that the Word of God was God....
Huh? Made my head spin.....
Then, it refers to the "Word" as "He"....
I remember that I had to have it explained to me what this all meant, that the "Word" was Jesus. I did not get it at first.

4 Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone.
5 The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
What is the light? Is it Jesus or would it be more appropriate to think of it as the Holy Spirit? Then what is the darkness? Would that then be Satan and evil? To tell you the truth, that makes sense to me that way but I wonder if my interpretation is right or not.

I would say that your assessment is essentially correct. Jesus is the light of righteousness, shining in a world dark with sin and satanic involvement.

John 1:2 He was present originally with God.
John 1:3 All things were made {and} came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.
This was in the footnotes. I really like this too...
Footnotes Amplified John 1: 1-3
In John's vision (Rev. 19), he sees Christ returning as Warrior-Messiah-King, and "the title by which He is called is The Word of God... and Lord of lords" (Rev. 19:13, 16).
Charles B. Williams, The New Testament: A Translation in the Language of the People: "God" appears first in the Greek word order in this phrase, denoting emphasis--so "God Himself."
[b]"God Himself" Who loved us so much. It is humbling to know He loves us so much. Which this made me think of Hebrews chapter 2. This from the NASB.....
(Hebrews 2:14 ) Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 ) and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
16 ) For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
17 ) Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
I am so thankful for our God. :pp
God bless.

These verses are from the NASB that is one of my favorite bibles. :)
(John 1:4 ) In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
(John 5:26 ) "For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;
(John 11:25) Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
26) and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"
The Lord Jesus is life. He has given us life. Without Him we were dead. We were doomed. Held in bondage to the darkness. Then came His light.....
(John 1:5 ) The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
I can remember being in the darkness. Not comprehending the Light. Then I remember what it felt like to finally see. In Acts 9:18 when it talks of Paul regaining his sight "and there fell from his eyes something like scales" That is what I have felt like. It is amazing when you can say "I once was blind but now I see". And it is the Lord Jesus who has given us light, for He is our Light.
(John 8:12 ) Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
(John 9:5 ) "While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."
(John 12:46 ) "I have come {as} Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.
He has freed us from darkness and given us life......
(Ephesians 2:1 ) And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
(Ephesians 2:2 ) in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
(Ephesians 2:4 ) But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
(Ephesians 2:5 ) even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
The Lord Jesus has made us alive because of His great love with which He loved us.
How awesome is His love.
We praise you Lord Jesus! :pp

(John 1:6 ) There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.
(John 1:7 ) He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.
These two verses are awesome too. John sent by God to be a witness of the Light "Jesus" so that those who heard would believe.
And we are also sent by God to be witnesses of the Light "Jesus" to testify about Jesus so that those who hear will believe.
How awesome that through our witness and testimony others can believe and have life.
God bless.

Have you also noticed the correlation of Genesis 1:1-5 and John 1:1-5, that all 5 verses fit together and that they in essence tell the Gospel?
(From the NKJV)
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the geginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Gensis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the the earth.
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
The earth representing man without God.. without form, void, darkness.
The Holy Spirit hovering over man.. wooing him.. calling him.
Jesus (the Light) coming into the darkness of mens hearts.. and there was light.
God separates those filled with the Light (Jesus) from the darkness. And the darkness does not comprehend it...
In the beginning, God's plan of salvation was in place.

Once again, I know that many of us who have been believers for some time usually skip over these verses, and actually most of this chapter, to get into what they view as more "meaty" issues. But when I first read these, I was amazed. It just blew my mind how simple God's plan of salvation was/is (for us...it was quite horrible for Jesus, I am sure!!).
We were in utter darkness, so God sent the light of Heaven to show us the way!! But many loved darkness, more than the light, so they rejected Him.
I must admit that I too have had times in my life where I rejected the light that God has shed on my "personal darkness" (sins) because it seemed just too painful to deal with, it was "easier" to live in the dark! But thank God He loves me (and you) enough to keep shining that light until we realize that the light of Jesus Christ is what we need! :pp

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Here is the New King James of these verses.
I have put in bold letters my favorite part -- this alone tells me that ANYONE who calls on HIm will be saved, and for me kind of disproves the idea of "election" and "predestination" (But that is another can of worms, and probably not appropriate for this study).

Galatians 3:
26) For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 8:
6) yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.
The last words...and we exist through Him.

Wow. So much we owe Him. How can we ever repay Him?
At least we will be able to worship Him and adore Him for eternity.

A little more on John 1:13
(John 1:13 NASB) who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
(John 3:3) Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
(John 3:5) Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
(James 1:18) In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
(1Peter 1:23) for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, {that is,} through the living and enduring word of God.
(1John 2:29) If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.
(1John 3:9) No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
(1John 5:18) We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
(2Corinthians 5:17) Therefore if anyone is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Amazing. We are indeed new creatures. Born of God.
I love this.....
(1John 3:1) See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and {such} we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
(1John 3:2) Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
Let us let that sink in. We are children of God. Born of God. Children of the Most Holy God are we.
Have a blessed day! :)

Susie asked me to post the next verses. :)
The first set of verses are from the New King James.
I was looking through some different translations and found one on Studylight.org that I had never heard of before, it is Daniel Mace translation of the New Testament from 1729. I thought I would post it. I thought it was very good, very interesting. If any one would like to post any other translations that would be great and then we can talk about them. :)
(John 1:14 ) And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 ) John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.' "
16 ) *And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
17 ) For the law was given through Moses, [but] grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 ) No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared [Him].
Daniel Mace New Testament (1729)
John 1:14) The Logos became incarnate, and had His tabernacle among us, being full of grace and truth; and we contemplated His glory, such glory as the Monogenes derived from the Father.
15) it was of Him that John bare witness, when he made this declaration, "this was He of whom I said, He that cometh after me, was before me; for He did indeed exist before me."
16) and of His Plenitude have we all received, even abundant grace.
17) the law indeed was delivered by Moses, but grace and truth was the dispensation of Jesus Christ.
18) no man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is intimate with the Father, hath made Him known.
Be blessed.

David Guzik's Commentaries
on the Bible
(John 1:14-18) The Word became flesh.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.'"
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
a. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us: This is John's most startling statement so far. It would have amazed both Jewish and Greek thinking to hear that the Word became flesh.
i. The Greeks had a generally low view of God. To them, John says the Word became flesh. The ancient Greek gods such as Zeus and Hermes were simply super-men; they were not equal to the order and reason of the Logos.
John tells the Greek thinkers, "The Logos you know made and ordered the universe became flesh."
ii. The Jews had a generally prohibitive view of God; to them, John says the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. The Jews had a hard time accepting that the great God revealed in the Old Testament could take on human form. John says to the Jewish thinkers, "the Word of God became flesh."
b. We beheld His glory: John testifies to this as an eyewitness, even as John the Baptist testified. John could say, "I saw His glory, the glory belonging to the only begotten of the Father."
i. Though, the word beheld is stronger than the words "saw" or "looked." John tells us that he and the other disciples carefully studied the glory of the Word made flesh.
c. John bore witness of Him and cried out:
The one announced by John the Baptist - Jesus Christ - is the Word made flesh.
He brings a different order than the one instituted by Moses (For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ).
i. It is an inexhaustible supply of grace (grace for grace) and truth, contrasting with an order of rigid laws and regulations given through Moses.
d. No one has seen God at any time:
Jesus, the Word, is the perfect declaration of the unseen God.
The Father and the Son belong to the same family, and Jesus has declared the nature of the unseen God to man.
We don't have to wonder about the nature and personality of God.
Jesus has declared it with both His teaching and His life.
That is so amazing that our God would love us that much, to become flesh, and dwell among us that we may behold His glory. Awesome :).
Be blessed
In Christ's love,
Debra

(John 1:16 NASB) For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
(Ephesians 1:22 ) And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church,
23 ) which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
(Ephesians 3:19 ) and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
It is amazing to think about, that we really are the body of Christ. His eyes, His hands, His feet.
When others look at us, talk to us, they should see Christ. His love, His compassion, His care. If we could only be more "filled" "up" to all the fullness of God.
Be blessed
In Christ's love,
Debra

(John 1:19 NKJV) Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
20 ) He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
21 ) And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."
22 ) Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"
23 ) He said: "I [am] 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."

(John 1:19 NKJV) Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
23 ) He said: "I [am] 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
"Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."
Just who was this man named John?
It is awesome that he was foretold of in the scriptures.
Malachi 4:
5)Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.
Luke 1:
15)For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink.
He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
16)And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
17)He will also go before "Him" in the spirit and power of Elijah,
"to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,
to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Isaiah 40:
3)The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
"Prepare the way of the LORD;
Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God.
10)Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand,
And His arm shall rule for Him;
Behold, His reward is with Him,
And His work before Him.
11)He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He will gather the lambs with His arm,
And carry them in His bosom,
And gently lead those who are with young.
Isaiah 9:
6)For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful,
Counselor,
Mighty God,
Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
7)Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
The LORD God sent John to be a witness unto Him,
the Lord Jesus,
the Alpha and Omega,
the Beginning and the End,
who is and who was and who is to come,
the Almighty.
We are also sent to be witnesses unto Him.
Have you ever felt like John? A voice crying in the wilderness, and no one is listening? Why won't they listen and be saved?
This reminds me of a song by Robin Mark -"Revival", I love that song. The first part usually makes me cry.
Be blessed

24) Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
25) And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
26) John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.
27) It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose."
28) These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30) This is He of whom I said, "After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.'
31) I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."
32) And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
33) I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, "Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'
34) And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

(Amplified Bible)
John 1:
24) The messengers had been sent from the Pharisees.
25) And they asked him, Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?
26) John answered them, I [only] baptize in (with) water.
Among you there stands One Whom you do not recognize and with Whom you are not acquainted and of Whom you know nothing.
27) It is He Who, coming after me, is preferred before me, the string of Whose sandal I am not worthy to unloose.
28) These things occurred in Bethany (Bethabara) across the Jordan [ at the Jordan crossing], where John was then baptizing.
29) The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!
Malachi 3:
1) BEHOLD, I send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me. And the Lord [the Messiah], Whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple;
the Messenger or Angel of the covenant, Whom you desire, behold, He shall come, says the Lord of hosts.
Isaiah 53:
7) He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted,
He was submissive and opened not His mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb,
so He opened not His mouth.
(NKJV)
Luke 23:9) Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.
(Matthew 27:12 ) And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.
13 ) Then Pilate said to Him, "Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?"
14 ) But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.
(Matthew 26:62 ) And the high priest arose and said to Him, "Do You answer nothing? What [is it] these men testify against You?"
63 ) But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!"
64 ) Jesus said to him, "[It is as] you said.
Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Debra, you are doing a most awesome study of this book!! I thank you for taking over this thread for me and I thank you all for your prayers!
I am not taking the study back over, Debra is doing so AWESOME, I don't want to mess with that.
However, I will be posting sometimes. I love that last post of yours Debra, and I thought that I would add those scriptures in again from the Message paraphrase, just for fun!! :saint: :pp
John 1 The Message
24 Those sent to question him were from the Pharisee party.
25 Now they had a question of their own: "If you're neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet, why do you baptize?"
26 John answered, "I only baptize using water. A person you don't recognize has taken his stand in your midst.
27 He comes after me, but he is not in second place to me. I'm not even worthy to hold his coat for him."
28 These conversations took place in Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing at the time.
29 The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, 30 "Here he is, God's Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I've been talking about, 'the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.'
Malchi 3 The Message
1 "Look! I'm sending my messenger on ahead to clear the way for me. Suddenly, out of the blue, the Leader you've been looking for will enter his Temple - yes, the Messenger of the Covenant, the one you've been waiting for. Look! He's on his way!" A Message from the mouth of God-of-the-Angel-Armies.
Is. 53
7 He was beaten, he was tortured, but he didn't say a word. Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered and like a sheep being sheared, he took it all in silence.
8 Justice miscarried, and he was led off - and did anyone really know what was happening? He died without a thought for his own welfare, beaten bloody for the sins of my people.
9 They buried him with the wicked, threw him in a grave with a rich man, Even though he'd never hurt a soul or said one word that wasn't true.
10 Still, it's what God had in mind all along, to crush him with pain. The plan was that he give himself as an offering for sin so that he'd see life come from it - life, life, and more life. And God's plan will deeply prosper through him. 11 Out of that terrible travail of soul, he'll see that it's worth it and be glad he did it. Through what he experienced, my righteous one, my servant, will make many "righteous ones," as he himself carries the burden of their sins.
Luke 23
9 He peppered him with questions. Jesus didn't answer - not one word.
Matt 27
12 But when the accusations rained down hot and heavy from the high priests and religious leaders, he said nothing.

I added more of Isaiah than Debra did, because I was so awed at how it was stated in this paraphrase. Can you believe it? It says that Jesus looks at US and counts US worth what HE went thru!! WOW!! What a humbling yet awesome statement!

Thank you Susie   .
As I read this Scripture I kept thinking of those who were sent to John who kept asking, who are you? Why did they want to know who John was?
They must have wandered if he was the Messiah. They knew the Messiah was supposed to come. John kept telling them that he was not the Christ.
John 1:26) John answered them, I [only] baptize in (with) water.
Among you there stands One Whom you do not recognize and with Whom you are not acquainted and of Whom you know nothing.
John 1:26 John answered, "I only baptize using water. A person you don't recognize has taken his stand in your midst.
John 1:
11) He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.
He was right there with them and they didn't recognize Him. They knew nothing about Him. I am sure they thought they knew Him or about Him, their own perceived ideas of who they thought He was supposed to be. In a way I guess that is like us. We have had our own ideas about God. I am sure a lot came from what we had heard from those around us. I know myself, I had to throw out everything I had ever heard about God and my own ideas and let Him teach me of who He is. And He is still teaching me.
It makes me sad when I read that He was there among them and they didn't recognize Him.
And John says look! There is the Lamb of God....
John 1:29) The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!
That’s what got me thinking of Isaiah 53. And how through all the accusations, the slander and lies, He didn't open His mouth. He didn't say a word. He let them mock Him, spit on Him, beat Him and crucify Him.
Matthew 26:63 ) But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him,
"I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!"
64 ) Jesus said to him, "[It is as] you said....
Mark 14:61)
But He kept silent and answered nothing.
Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him,
"Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"
62)Jesus said, "I am. ....
Luke 22:67)
"If You are the Christ, tell us."
But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will by no means believe.
68) And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.
69) Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God."
70) Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?"
So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am."
The Lord Jesus told them who He was. So sad, they didn't believe Him.
Susie, what you posted from the Message Bible of Isaiah 53:7-11, that really touched my heart. And that Jesus looks at us and counts us worth what He went through. He counts us worth dying for. So awesome. Never had I known such love before. That someone would die for me. That the Lord God loves us that much, to lay down His life, and take it up again, that we may have life, eternal life, with Him.
Thank you, Lord God, for your awesome love, for us, your children.

Thinking on John 1:29 :)
(NKJV) John 1:
29) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
(NASB) 1 John 3:
5) You know that He appeared in order to take away sins;
and in Him there is no sin.
1 John 1:
2) and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us--
2 Corinthians 5:
21) He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
(NASB) 1 Peter 1:
18) knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19) but with precious blood,
as of a lamb unblemished and spotless,
the blood of Christ.
20) For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world,
but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
21) who through Him believe in God,
who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory,
so that your faith and hope are in God.

(John 1:35 NASB) Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,
36 ) and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and *said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"
37 ) The two disciples heard him speak,
and they followed Jesus.
38 ) And Jesus turned and saw them following,
and *said to them, "What do you seek?
" They said to Him, "Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?"
39 ) He *said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
40 ) One of the two who heard John {speak} and followed Him,
was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 ) He *found first his own brother Simon and *said to him,
"We have found the Messiah" (which translated means Christ).
42 ) He brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter).

( The Message Bible) John 1
Come, See for Yourself
35)The next day John was back at his post with two disciples, who were watching.
36) He looked up, saw Jesus walking nearby, and said, "Here He is, God's Passover Lamb."
37) The two disciples heard him and went after Jesus.
38) Jesus looked over his shoulder and said to them, "What are you after?"
They said, "Rabbi" (which means "Teacher"), "where are you staying?"
39) He replied, "Come along and see for yourself."
They came, saw where He was living, and ended up staying with Him for the day. It was late afternoon when this happened.
40) Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard John's witness and followed Jesus.
41) The first thing he did after finding where Jesus lived was find his own brother, Simon, telling him, "We've found the Messiah" (that is, "Christ").
42) He immediately led him to Jesus.
Jesus took one look up and said, "You're John's son, Simon? From now on your name is Cephas" (or Peter, which means "Rock").
Interesting, as soon as they heard who Jesus was, they followed Him.
And Andrew, immediately led Peter, his brother, to Jesus.
What does Jesus say?
Come, follow Me, and see :) .
Be blessed

John 1:46) Nathanael said to him, " Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and :see."
47) Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!"
48) Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."
49) Nathanael answered Him, " Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel."
50) Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these."
51) And He said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

:) I've been thinking on John 1:48
Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."
Psalm 139:
1) O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
2) You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
You understand my thought from afar.
3) You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
4) Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O LORD, You know it all.
Matthew 12:25) And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand.
Matthew 9:4) And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, "Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?
Luke 6:8) But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand, "Get up and come forward!" And he got up and came forward.
Luke 9:47) But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their heart, took a child and stood him by His side,
Mark 2:8) Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, said to them, "Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?
John 2:24) But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men,
Acts 1:24) And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen
Acts 15:8) "And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us;
John 16:30) "Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we believe that You came from God."
Hebrews 4:13) And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
Okay, I'm finished :).
Anyone like to start John chapter 2?

Nice study ladies, but there is so much more. :D
Someone encouraged me to participate in a study here, and another person encouraged me not to present to much info, so as not to hinder any brothers and sisters. So I'm going to add a bit more to this chapter in John. But not everything I have on it. Just some things that I think will help understand better. OK. :)
John presents Jesus as God. As quoted by Isaiah 40:9 "Behold your God..."
So you will not see some of the things that are seen in the other three gospels. The reason is because they would have been out of place in this gospel. No temptation in the wilderness, no agony in the garden, and no transfiguration. While the transfiguration is mentioned in the first three gospels, the reason being it concerned the sufferings and earthly glory of the Son of Man, while in John the Son of God concerns His heavenly and eternal glory.
The incidents recorded in John that are in common with the other three gospels are seven in number:
The work of John the Baptist
The last supper
The annointing at Bethany
The passion
The resurrection, and
Two miracles: the feeding of the 5,000 and the walking on the sea
They are recorded not because of their facts or effects, but as to their number and signification.
In the other gospels there are "miracles" or "mighty works", but in John they are "signs".
There are also certain words used in John more than all the other books put together. And for special reason. To draw our attention.
There are about 32 in all, but a few are, believe, glory, jew, judge, light, life, three forms for love, sign, truth, and witness.
In the beginning verses.....
Jhn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jhn 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Jhn 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Jhn 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Jhn 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Creation is not mentioned until verse 3, and so the Word had no beginning. Also see 17:5, 1 John 1:1, Ephesians 1:4, Proverbs 8:23, Psalm 90:2.
In Hebrews we read,
Hbr 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Meaning the Word/Logos, framed the world/ages-aions(greek).
This Word is the Life. In Him is this Life that is a Light to men.
Life, as the fountain of life, also see, 1 John 5:11,12 and Psalm 36:9.
LIFE- manifested 1:4, obtained 3:16, possessed 4:14, sustained 6:35, ministered 7:38, abounding 10:10, resurretion 11:24,25.
In verse 5, 'comprehended it' is from the Vulgate. Only here the greek 'katalambano'. It's meaning, overcame or overpowered Him not.
Verses 1-28 are the forerunner verses.
Couple other notes. 'grace and truth' is a hebraism for the sum of divine revelation.
In verse 23 of chapter 1 you'll see Isaiah being quoted. Notice the Lord says Isaiah spoke this. This quote is from the latter part of Isaiah who the critics say was not written by Isaiah. So here is a proof for later reference by our Lord. And I'm sure if He said Isaiah said it then he did. No matter what critics say. :tongue2:
The term 'jew' is pruposefully used in this gospel. It is the name given them by the gentiles. It points to the consequences of their rejection of Messiah, when they would be (Hebrew) Lo Ammi=not my people. No longer regarded as Israel, but as 'jews'. Meaning they are His enemy. Those that are not His, are the enemies.

Hi Teke, :)
of course there is much, much more. We have barely made a dent in each chapter that we studied. Meaning: the more you study and read the more you see. :)
