:pp Yeah!! We made it to chapter 14!! :)

All our sisters you are welcome to join us and comment whenever you wish. Blessings. :hug:

John 14:1)"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.

Do not let your hearts be troubled; Jesus was preparing them for when He would no longer be with them. He was telling them not to be distressed. They believed in God, they were to believe in Jesus. To believe in Jesus' words. To believe what He told them.

2) "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

If there were not a place for them in His Father's house He wouldn't be telling them that there was. He would not lie to them. There are many dwelling places there and Jesus was going to prepare an abode for each of them. Just as He has prepared a place for each of us. Isn't that grand! Can't wait until that day!

3) "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

Jesus has promised He will come again. On that we can depend. He will come for us too! Where Jesus is, there we will be.

4) "And you know the way where I am going."

5)Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?"

6)Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Jesus has made the way for us to be with the Father. Our Father who created us and loves us. Jesus is the way. Jesus who loves us so much and desires that we be with Him where He is.

Good morning, :)

a few more verses......

John 14:7)"If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him."

8)Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us."

9)Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

10)"Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

11)"Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.

Blessings :hug:

Jesus reveals God the Father to us. He told the disciples that He is God! Thomas and Philip seemed to be slow in understanding - like we are!

Jesus reveals God the Father to us. He told the disciples that He is God! Thomas and Philip seemed to be slow in understanding - like we are!

I was just praying yesterday about this in my journal...You, Lord, are my shepherd -- I shall not want -- and yet I do. Lord, please fill the need that claws at my heart and tries so desperately to convince me that I want. Lord, I seek those green pastures and still waters -- the restoration of my soul that only comes from You. You are with me -- You are all I need -- be all I want.

Blessings,

NKJV John 14

12) Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

13) And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14) If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

Good Morning, dear sisters. :) :hug:

(NASB) John 14:12"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.

Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you," Other times He says, "assuredly I say to you," Jesus is saying we can believe in what He says. His words are truth. He cannot lie for He is God.
Jesus has said whoever believes in Him, the works He does, they will do also. And even greater works will they do because He goes to the Father. Key words here> "because I go to the Father."

13"Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Whatever we ask in Jesus name, that He will do, in order that the Father will be glorified in the Son. Jesus will answer our prayers to glorify the Father. Everything Jesus did brought glory to the Father. Everything we do should bring glory to the Father.

14"If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Jesus tells us that if we ask anything in His name He will do it. Now that is a promise. The key is that what we ask must bring glory to the Father. So when we ask we shouldn't worry if Jesus will answer, He has promised He would. Let us remember in our request that they bring glory to the Father.

(NASB) John 14:15"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

16"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;

17that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

The Holy Spirit who was promised, our Comforter, (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), all that we need. Who abides with us forever. Praise God! :pp

Finally, I am getting back here......I am so thankful for that post Deb. What a promise Jesus gave!

12) Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

Look in Acts Chapter 2, after the Holy Spirit came. Peter preached and 3,000 people were saved. That could be done only because Jesus went to His Father and sent the Holy Spirit!

13) And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14) If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

He did not say "ask anything you want and I will do it." He said "ask in My name." We have to ask according to His character, His will. If I ask for a million dollars, God is going to know that is for selfish reasons and I wouldn't glorify God with it, so He is going to say "no way." James 4:3 -You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

The Holy Spirit will teach us and guide us to know how we should pray.

Good morning my sisters. :hug: :hug: :hug: :hug:

:) A few more verses.......

John 14:18)"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

"I will not leave you as orphans" The King James says>John 14:18)I will not leave you comfortless:

In receiving the Holy Spirit of promise we are not left alone. Not left as orphans. Not left comfortless. Thank you Lord Jesus.

19)"After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.

Because Jesus lives we live. I am reminded of a hymn :

"Because He Lives"

GOD Sent HIS SON,
They called HIM JESUS;
HE Came to love, heal and forgive;
HE lived and died
To buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there
To prove my Saviour lives.

CHORUS:
Because He lives
I can face tomorrow;
Because HE lives
All fear is gone;
Because I know
HE holds the future,
And life is worth the living
just because HE lives.

How sweet to hold
A new born baby,
And feel the pride,
And joy HE gives;
But greater still
The calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days
Because HE lives.

Chorus:
And then one day
I'll cross the river;
I'll fight life's
Final war with pain,
And then as death
Gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of Glory
And I'll know HE lives.

That is such a beautiful song. :)

20)"In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

I am reminded of these verses.....

(John 17: 22)"The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one (John 17:23)I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.)

21)"He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him."

Those who have Jesus' commandments and keep them are those who love Him. And Jesus' commandments are not burdensome. For we read in 1 John.....

1 John 5:3)For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

Then Jesus promises to those who love Him that they will be loved by the Father as well as by Jesus. And He will make Himself known to us. What greater promise is that. The greatest treasure of all to know Jesus and the Father. Praise God!

To be in the Lord's name is to be one with the Lord, to live by Him and let Him live in us. So, when we are asking things in His name, we are asking that His will would be done, we are not asking for stuff for ourselves.

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may be with you forever.

The greek word for comforter here means advocate, one alongside who takes care of our cause, our affairs and is the same word as advocate in 1 John 2:1.

John 14:17 Even the Spirit of reality, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him; but you know Him, because He abides with you and shall be in you.

:pp The "another Comforter" is the Spirit of reality, Christ Himself who abides with us and in us. He dwells in us as our life and reality.

:hug: I was talking with a dear friend yesterday. My grief over Nathaniel's illness and over a dear friend of ours, our former pastors wife, who had recently passed away from cancer. She was a wonderful woman. Such wonderful gifts she had for ministering to abused women. She was such a special lady. As we talked of God's answers to prayers for their healing she reminded me that when we could really come to the point where we put our will aside concerning all things and could say, not our will, but that God's will be done, then we could truly rest in God. Trust Him fully. Be at peace in His will for our lives.

Thank you Toymom. :hug:

:) A few more verses.....

John 14:22) Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?"

23) Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

24) "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.

25) "These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.

26) "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Good morning!:) :hug:

John 14:22) Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?

23) Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

Jesus reveals Himself more and more as we love Him and are obedient to Him.

24) "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.

The worldly cannot love or keep Jesus' words because He does not live within tthem.

25) "These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.

26) "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

The Holy Spirit teaches all things. Jesus told the disciples all these things while He was with them but after the Holy Spirit came, the teaching came through their lives and the writing of the New Testament. The Holy Spirit speaks and teaches us all things today.

1 Corinthians 2:13 - These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual with spiritual.

:hug: Here are the last verses for this chapter......

(NASB) John 14:27)"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

It is hard at times to keep our hearts from being fearful. Especially of the unknown. When we don't know what is ahead of us. It doesn't do us any good to be fearful or troubled about things. But that is in our nature and it is hard to overcome. But we really have no need to be fearful or anxious because our God is with us and He knows what is ahead of us. He is there for us. We are His very own. We belong to Him. There is nothing that our God can't handle. So there is no reason for us to be fearful or anxious for our God is watching over us.

I love this in Deuteronomy....
(NKJ)Deuteronomy 31:6) Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."
8) And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed."

I used to repeat verse 6 to myself all the time. Just thinking on that verse reassured me of God's presence with me.

Jesus said "My peace I give to you." Jesus gives us His peace. When you feel His peace it is like no other. Which this reminds me of....
Philippians 4:6) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7) and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

28)"You heard that I said to you, 'I go away, and I will come to you. ' If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

29)"Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.

30)"I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;

31)but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me Get up, let us go from here.

Wow, Jesus gives His peace to us! His peace takes away our fear. We can give our fear and worry to Him. He is in control no matter what happens or how things may seem. Thank you, Jesus!!

Philippians 4:6,7 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Thank you Brenda. :hug:

I thought I would look up the word "peace"
I looked here in the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia.
I just copied a little from there. I thought this was good.

PEACE
pes (shalom; eirene):

There was a lot for the Old Testament but I just copied this.....

3) Inward peace was the portion of the righteous who trusted in God (Job 22:21, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace (shalam)"; Psalms 4:8; 85:8, "He will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints"; 119:165; Proverbs 3:2,17; Isaiah 26:3, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace (Hebrew "peace, peace"), whose mind is stayed on thee; because he trusteth in thee"; Malachi 2:5); also outward peace (Job 5:23,24; Proverbs 16:7, etc.).

Some from the New Testament.....

(3) God is therefore "the God of peace," the Author and Giver of all good ("peace" including every blessing) very frequently (e.g. Romans 15:33; 16:20; 2 Thessalonians 3:16, etc., "the Lord of peace"). "Peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" is a common apostolic wish or salutation (compare 1 Corinthians 1:3; 2 Corinthians 1:2, etc.).

(4) We have also "peace" as a greeting (Matthew 10:13; Luke 10:5); "a son of peace" (Luke 10:6) is one worthy of it, in sympathy with it; the Lord's own greeting to His disciples was "Peace be unto you" (Luke 24:36; John 20:19,21,26), and ere He left them He gave them specially His blessing of "Peace" (John 14:27); we have also frequently "Go in peace" (Mark 5:34; Luke 7:50). In Luke 19:38, we have "peace in heaven" (in the acclamation of Jesus on His Messianic entry of Jerusalem).

(5) The peace that Christ brought is primarily spiritual peace from and with God, peace in the heart, peace as the disposition or spirit. He said that He did not come "to send peace on the earth, but a sword," referring to the searching nature of His call and the divisions and clearances it would create. But, of course, the spirit of the gospel and of the Christian is one of peace, and it is a Christian duty to seek to bring war and strife everywhere to an end. This is represented as the ultimate result of the gospel and Spirit of Christ; universal and permanent peace can come only as that Spirit rules in men's hearts.

30)"I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;

S*tan has no power over Jesus!

31)but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me Get up, let us go from here.

He went to the cross out of love and obedience. What an example!

Through all of this, Jesus lovingly comforted His disciples and explained to them even though they did not understand until later.
