View Full Version : Praising through Psalms

Faithful1
Mar 1st 2006, 03:19 PM
The concept here is very simple, post your verse(s) of Praise from the book of Psalms and feel free to share (if you would like to) why you chose it. This thread is not for comments or debates in regards to someone’s use of scripture or why they choose it.

Let's see how many verses in Psalms are dedicated to Praising our God!

I'll begin!

Psalm 150: 3-6

3Praise Him with trumpet sound;
Praise Him with harp and lyre.
4Praise Him with timbrel and dancing;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.
5Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
6Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!

I love this passage in Psalms because I grew up in a musical family. Music really touches my heart and I love praising God with it! No matter where I am in life, a good set of lyrics and music worshiping God can bring me back to the basics of life…. Me and My God!

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart;I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall i be saved from mine enemies.

I love this in the Psalms. I have it memorized. I sometimes use it as prayer.

Psalm 63:1) O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

2) Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.

3) Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.

4) So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.

5) My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

6) When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,

7) For You have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.

8) My soul clings to You;
Your right hand upholds me.

I have a mental picture that I am sheltered under His wings.
That is the greatest comfort, that our God is watching over us. That He knows all that is going on in our lives. Especially in the difficult times, just knowing He is there and He will see us through.

Blessings :hug:

Psalms 66:1-4

1 Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth!

2 Sing to the glory of his name! Offer glory and praise!

3 Tell God, "How awesome are your deeds! Through the greatness of your power, your enemies submit themselves to you.

4 All the earth will worship you, and will sing to you; they will sing to your name." Selah.

How awesome are God's works? I am constantly amazed by how Great my God is!

Psalm 30:4) Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones,
And give thanks to His holy name.

5) For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

After the weeping comes Joy. Joy from our Lord. :hug:

Psalm 42:5)Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him
For the help of His presence.

6)O my God, my soul is in despair within me;
Therefore I remember You from the land of the Jordan
And the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

7)Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls;
All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.

8)The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime;
And His song will be with me in the night,
A prayer to the God of my life.

9)I will say to God my rock, "Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

10)As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries revile me,
While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

11)Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.

Pslam 18: 1-3 The first three verses in David's "Victory Song"

1 "I Love Thee O LORD, my strength."
2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations
~ Psalm 100:1-5

I love this passage, most especially because I am learning the "biggies" in my hymnal right now, and I am learning to read music, and I like to sing these joyful songs to the Lord (as love songs :)) at night as I practice.

Psalm 84

To the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

1 How lovely is Your tabernacle,
O LORD of hosts!
2 My soul longs, yes, even faints
For the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young—
Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
My King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
They will still be praising You. Selah

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
They make it a spring;
The rain also covers it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength;
Each one appears before God in Zion.[b (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2084;&version=50;#fen-NKJV-15267b)]

8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
9 O God, behold our shield,
And look upon the face of Your anointed.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.

12 O LORD of hosts,
Blessed is the man who trusts in You!

I was reading this on the train to work this morning. I was quite tired and was struggling to find the words to praise the Almighty, this one helped.

Psalm 108

1) My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.

2)Awake, harp and lyre;
I will awaken the dawn!

3)I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.

4)For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the skies.

5)Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
And Your glory above all the earth.

6)That Your beloved may be delivered,
Save with Your right hand, and answer me!

7)God has spoken in His holiness:
"I will exult, I will portion out Shechem
And measure out the valley of Succoth.

8)"Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine;
Ephraim also is the helmet of My head;
Judah is My scepter.

9)"Moab is My washbowl;
Over Edom I shall throw My shoe;
Over Philistia I will shout aloud."

10)Who will bring me into the besieged city?
Who will lead me to Edom?

11)Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected us?
And will You not go forth with our armies, O God?

12)Oh give us help against the adversary,
For deliverance by man is in vain.

13)Through God we will do valiantly,
And it is He who shall tread down our adversaries.

Psa 16:1 Protect me, O God; I trust in you for safety.
Psa 16:2 I say to the LORD, "You are my Lord; all the good things I have come from you."
Psa 16:3 How excellent are the LORD's faithful people! My greatest pleasure is to be with them.
Psa 16:4 Those who rush to other gods bring many troubles on themselves. I will not take part in their sacrifices; I will not worship their gods.
Psa 16:5 You, LORD, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands.
Psa 16:6 How wonderful are your gifts to me; how good they are!
Psa 16:7 I praise the LORD, because he guides me, and in the night my conscience warns me.
Psa 16:8 I am always aware of the LORD's presence; he is near, and nothing can shake me.
Psa 16:9 And so I am thankful and glad, and I feel completely secure,
Psa 16:10 because you protect me from the power of death. I have served you faithfully, and you will not abandon me to the world of the dead.

Which reminds me of Acts 27 (Paul and the shipwreck) and verse 44, "ALL SAFE."

We still can't beat the 23rd Psalm for comfort. :pray:

The Lord is Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters;
He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me into the paths of righteousness, for his name's sake.

Yeah though I walk throught the valley of the shadow of death. I will fear no evil,for though art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me?

Lord, when my faith in You is weak and small, cause my trust in You to be strong and large.

Psalm 62:8

God is a refuge for us. Selah.

The old hymn A 'Mighty Fortress Is Our God' states in part . . . "From age to age the same"

Psalm 93:1-3
The Lord reigns; He is robed in majesty; The Lord is robed; He has put on strength as His belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.

Mark 4:37-38
And a great storm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat so that the boat was already filling.
But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, And they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?"

Psalm 93:4
Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of he sea, the Lord on high is mighty!

Mark:4:39-40
And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?"

Psalm93:5
Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.

Psalm 33:9
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

Mark 4:41
And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, "Who is then is this, that even the wind and sea obey him?"

Psalm 107:25
For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea.

Psalm 100:3, 5
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
(Psa. 23:2b He makes me lie down in green pastures)
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Praise the Lord, He is mighty, He does care if we are perishing;
Praise the Lord, He is the same yesterday, today and forever!

Psalm 121:8
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Praise the Lord, Hallelujah, Amen and Amen!

14) I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

15) My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16) Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.

23) Search me, O God, and know my heart;

24) And see if there is any wicked way in me,

1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
3 For the LORD is the great God,
And the great King above all gods.
4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
The heights of the hills are His also.
5 The sea is His, for He made it;
And His hands formed the dry land.

6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
7 For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.

Today, if you will hear His voice:
8 “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion,
As in the day of trial in the wilderness,
9 When your fathers tested Me;
They tried Me, though they saw My work.
10 For forty years I was grieved with that generation,
And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts,
And they do not know My ways.’
11 So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”

Let me remember to have great reverence for You,Almighty God.I will worship you with Thanksgiving and Praise,for You are taking care of Your children.

1 Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD;
2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.

3 If You, LORD, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.

5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the LORD;
For with the LORD there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
8 And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Thank You Father that You are always faithful and have mercy on Your children in all the nations.:amen:

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6 The LORD executes righteousness
And justice for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the children of Israel.
8 The LORD is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
9 He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor punished us according to our iniquities.

11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pities his children,
So the LORD pities those who fear Him.
14 For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
18 To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.

19 The LORD has established His throne in heaven,
And His kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the LORD, you His angels,
Who excel in strength, who do His word,
Heeding the voice of His word.
21 Bless the LORD, all you His hosts,
You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.
22 Bless the LORD, all His works,
In all places of His dominion.

Bless the LORD, O my soul!

Heavenly Father,Your faithfulness is so abundant,let me never take it for granted.Amen.

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Yesterday, I was having a wilderness day, and circumstances were very disquieting. Then I came across this treasure from years ago, it is by Charles H. Spurgeon, and it became a "this one thing I do" turn of events.

I hope this will be a "green pasture" meaning and experience for you all.

Psalm 63:1

O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.

David did not stop singing because he was in the wilderness, but he made his worship suitable to his circumstances and presented a wilderness hymn to his God. There was no desert in his heart though there was desert around him. We too may expect to find ourselves in rough places. Even then may the Eternal Comforter abide with us and cause us to bless the Lord at all times.

Full assurance does not hinder diligence but is the reason for it. See how eager David is to seek his Lord; he will not wait for noon or the cool evening. He is up at cockcrow (dawn) to meet his God. Communion with God is so sweet that the chill of the morning is forgotten and the luxury of oversleeping is despised.

The Morning is the time for dew and freshness, and the psalmist consecrates it to prayer for fellowship with God. The word "early" has not only the sense of early in the morning, but that eargerness, immediateness. He who truly longs for God longs for Him now.

A weary place and a weary heart make the presence of more desirable. The absence of outward comforts can be endured serenely when we walk with God and the most lavish accommodations do not satisfy when He withdraws.

Therefore let all desires become one: Seeking first the Kingdom of God that all else may be added to us (Matt. 6:33).

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

Charles H. Spurgeon, 1833-1892.

I haven't seen anyone post this one yet:

Psalm 32

1Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
4For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
5I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
7Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
9Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
10Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. 11Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

When I first read this psalm, it felt great, because it describes our repentance to the Lord, our salvation, and how He takes care of each one of us.

the sufficiency of His Word for every situation

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Psalm 34

1 I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel[a] of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him,
And delivers them.

8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
9 Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

11 Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Who is the man who desires life,
And loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
20 He guards all his bones;
Not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked,
And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned.
22 The LORD redeems the soul of His servants,
And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.:hug:

May 4th 2007, 10:22 AM
I have listened to the old spiritual song “By the Rivers of Babylon” several times, and read the text of Psalm thirty-seven many more times. In my musing and meditation of it, this is what I have learned. Rivers in our life do not last forever, nor will weeping; like when Jesus sat on Jacob’s well and talked with the Samaritan women, though not literal, but so in like fashion He sets with us and through His holy Word and the Holy Spirit He reassures us with His ever abiding peace, cheer and love.

The commentary style after the text the 137th Psalm, is mostly the weaving together of other scriptures to see that at the rivers edge where there may be weeping, it is a good thing to sing praises unto the Lord.

I hope and trust that this will keep us, the “We” of the Lord, “Praising through the Psalms”

Psalm 137 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&version=NKJV&passage=Psalm+137), verses 1 to 4

By the rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down, yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.
We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst of it.
For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song,
And those who plundered us requested mirth,
Saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

“How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a foreign land?”

And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst and said, "Peace to you." Then Jesus says, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." Then He with compassion asks, “Why are you weeping?”

We answer, “We are strangers and pilgrims on the earth, here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.” And He says, "Do not weep, remember, I will never leave you nor forsake you." Then He asks, “What are you seeking?"

We say to Him, "Sir, our home. Our home that is beyond the mystical river of Jordan, we are exhausted but still in pursuit to go to meet the King, to go in escort with the King across the mystical Jordan.” Then all at once the scene was changed, we crossed over the mystical Jordan. And we saw, John, and what John saw . . . John saw, the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land and he raised up his hand to heaven and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be no delay, time is no longer.

And then he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands -They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying -"Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!”Because of all His mercies . . . We shall sing like the sweet psalmist of Israel -To make a joyful shout to the LORD . . . To come before His presence with singing, and enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Because, great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised . . . I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High . . . Yes, I will sing praises to the LORD . . . Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever. . . With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations. Oh come, let us sing to the LORD!Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation . . . Praise the LORD!For it is good to sing praises to our God, for it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful. Blessed be the LORD forevermore!Praise the Lord. Amen and Amen.I am thankful for the times that are difficult, they may cause weeping, but that only lasts through the night because joy comes in the morning; and not only that, joy can come within the mourning.

Be comforted, cheered, and "Rejoice!"

A Psalm of David.

1 I will praise You with my whole heart; before the gods I will sing praises to You.
2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving kindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
3 In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.

4 All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD, when they hear the words of Your mouth.
5 Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.
6 Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar.

7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; you will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.
8 The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands.

How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts!

2 My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young -- Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my

4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they will still be praising You.

Selah

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also covers it with pools.

7 They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.

8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob!

Selah

9 O God, behold our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good
thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

I found this verse about while researching Psalm 84 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&version=NKJV&passage=Psalm+84). What a marevelous description Thomas Pierson has put forth.

"David's Heart's Desire," for the whole.

By Thomas Pierson - 1570 to 1633

O Lord of hosts, how lovely in mine eyes the tents where thou dost dwell!
For thine abode my spirit faints and sighs; the courts I love so well.

My longing soul is weary within thy house to be;
This world is waste and dreary, a desert land to me.

The sparrow, Lord, hath found a sheltered home, the swallow hath her nest;
She layeth there her young, and though she roam, returneth there to rest.

I, to thine altar flying, would there for ever be;
My heart and flesh are crying, O living God, for thee!

How blest are they who in thy house abide!
Thee evermore they praise.

How strong the man whom thou alone dost guide, whose heart doth keep thy ways.

A pilgrim and a stranger, he leaneth on thine arm;
And thou, in time of danger, dost shield him from alarm.

From strength to strength through Baca's vale of woe, they pass along in prayer,
and gushing streams of living water flow, dug by their faithful care;
Thy rain is sent from heaven to fertilise the land, and wayside grace is given till they in Zion stand.

Lord God of hosts, attend unto my prayer!
O Jacob's God, give ear!

Behold, O God, our shield, we through thy care, within thy courts appear!

Look thou upon the glory of thine Anointed's face;
In him we stand before thee, to witness of thy grace!

One day with thee excelleth over and over a thousand days apart;
In thine abode, within thy temple door, would stand my watchful heart.

Men tell me of the treasure hid in their tents of sin;
I look not there for pleasure, nor choose to enter in.

Own then the Lord to be thy Sun, thy Shield — No good will he withhold;
He giveth grace, and soon shall be revealed His glory, yet untold.

His mighty name confessing, walk thou at peace and free;
O Lord, how rich the blessing of him who trusts in thee!

1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 18:kiss:

1I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.

2The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

4The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

5The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

6In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

7Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

8There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

9He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

10And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.

11He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

12At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

13The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

14Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

15Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

16He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

17He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

18They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

19He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

20The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

21For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

22For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.

23I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.

24Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

25With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

26With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

27For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.

28For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

29For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

30As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

31For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?

32It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

33He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

34He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

35Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.

36Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

37I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

38I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.

39For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.

40Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.

41They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

42Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.

43Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.

44As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.

45The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.

46The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

47It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.

48He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

49Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

50Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.

Psalm 1:3 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&version=NKJV&passage=Psalm+1%3A3)

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

Jeremiah 17:8 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&version=NKJV&passage=Jeremiah+17%3A8)

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Psalm 18-
Psalm 18-"1-I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.2The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.4The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.5The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.6In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he "heard" my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. KJV

I love when we see the attributes of God in the Psalms...
God is: Strong, Rock, Fortress, Deliverer, Buckler, Horn of Salvation, High Tower!

God is Strong!- 1 Corinthians 1:25-"Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

God is our Rock!-1 Samuel 2:2-"There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
Matthew 7:24-"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:"
The foundation of our lives has to be built on nothing less than on our Rock..our God!

God is our Fortress!-"matsuwd"-net-

If God is our Fortress and He is...then He is our safety..like a fortified city, He is our stronghold..He keeps us safe.

God is our Deliverer-

1) to bring into security, deliver
2) to cause to escape, cast forth
Galatians 1:4-" Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:"

God is our Buckler- our shield-
1 Samuel 17-"44And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. 45Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied."

God is the Horn of my Salvation-
1 Corinthians 15:51-"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

God is our High Tower-God can see what we can't. It is so good to think of Him looking out for us! We need only to trust in this:

Isaiah 55:8-9For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

Psalm 56:3) Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.

4) In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear.
What can flesh do to me?

8) You number my wanderings;
Put my tears into Your bottle;
Are they not in Your book?

9) When I cry out to You,
Then my enemies will turn back;
This I know, because God is for me.

10) In God (I will praise His word),
In the LORD (I will praise His word),

11) In God I have put my trust;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?

12) Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God;
I will render praises to You,

13) For You have delivered my soul from death.
Have You not kept my feet from falling,
That I may walk before God
In the light of the living?

This psalm has spoken to me lately:
Psalm 67:1-7
To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song.
God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. [2] That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. [3] Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. [4] O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. [5] Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. [6] Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. [7] God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Psalm 86

1 Bow down Your ear, O LORD, hear me;
For I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my life, for I am holy;
You are my God;
Save Your servant who trusts in You!
3 Be merciful to me, O Lord,
For I cry to You all day long.
4 Rejoice the soul of Your servant,
For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive,
And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

6 Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer;
And attend to the voice of my supplications.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
For You will answer me.

8 Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord;
Nor are there any works like Your works.
9 All nations whom You have made
Shall come and worship before You, O Lord,
And shall glorify Your name.
10 For You are great, and do wondrous things;
You alone are God.

11 Teach me Your way, O LORD;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
13 For great is Your mercy toward me,
And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 O God, the proud have risen against me,
And a mob of violent men have sought my life,
And have not set You before them.
15 But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,
Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

16 Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me!
Give Your strength to Your servant,
And save the son of Your maidservant.
17 Show me a sign for good,
That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed,
Because You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

I love this Psalm.

Psalm 85

1To the Overseer. -- By sons of Korah. A Psalm. Thou hast accepted, O Jehovah, Thy land, Thou hast turned [to] the captivity of Jacob.
2Thou hast borne away the iniquity of Thy people, Thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.
3Thou hast gathered up all Thy wrath, Thou hast turned back from the fierceness of Thine anger.
4Turn back [to] us, O God of our salvation, And make void Thine anger with us.
5To the age art Thou angry against us? Dost Thou draw out Thine anger To generation and generation?
6Dost Thou not turn back? Thou revivest us, And Thy people do rejoice in Thee.
7Show us, O Jehovah, thy kindness, And Thy salvation Thou dost give to us.
8I hear what God Jehovah speaketh, For He speaketh peace unto His people, And unto His saints, and they turn not back to folly.
9Only, near to those fearing Him [is] His salvation, That honour may dwell in our land.
10Kindness and truth have met, Righteousness and peace have kissed,
11Truth from the earth springeth up, And righteousness from heaven looketh out,
12Jehovah also giveth that which is good, And our land doth give its increase. 13Righteousness before Him goeth, And maketh His footsteps for a way!

6Sing praises to God, sing praises;
Sing praises to our King, sing praises.

Psalm 40:1-10

[1] I waited patiently for the LORD;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
[2] He drew me up from the desolate pit,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
[3] He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the LORD.
[4] Blessed is the man who makes
the LORD his trust,
who does not turn to the proud,
to those who go astray after false gods!
[5] Thou hast multiplied, O LORD my God,
thy wondrous deeds and thy thoughts toward us;
none can compare with thee!
Were I to proclaim and tell of them,
they would be more than can be numbered.
[6] Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire;
but thou hast given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering
thou hast not required.
[7] Then I said, "Lo, I come;
in the roll of the book it is written of me;
[8] I delight to do thy will, O my God;
thy law is within my heart."
[9] I have told the glad news of deliverance
in the great congregation;
lo, I have not restrained my lips,
as thou knowest, O LORD.

[10] I have not hid thy saving help within my heart,
I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation;
I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness
from the great congregation. [RSV]

Psalm 62:5-8
I find rest in God;
only he gives me hope.
He is my rock and my salvation.
He is my defender;
I will not be defeated.
My honor and salvation come from God
He is my mighty rock and my protection.
People, trust God all the time.
Tell him all your problems,
because God is our protection.

This is my favorite part of Psalms. I found it when I was a new Christian and over the years I've used it a lot for praise and prayer.

The Psalms is my favorite book of the Bible, especially when I go through hard times because they're so honest but still have hope and praise God.
13, 73 and 77 are some of the ones that have helped me in the past.

Psalms 68:5-6
God is in his holy temple
He is a father to orphans,
and he defends the widows.
God gives the lonely a home
He leads the prisoners out with joy.

Psalm 103

A David Psalm

1-2 O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I'll bless his holy name!
O my soul, bless God,
don't forget a single blessing!

3-5 He forgives your sins—every one.
He heals your diseases—every one.
He redeems you from hell—saves your life!
He crowns you with love and mercy—a paradise crown.
He wraps you in goodness—beauty eternal.
He renews your youth—you're always young in his presence.

6-18God makes everything come out right;
he puts victims back on their feet.
He showed Moses how he went about his work,
opened up his plans to all Israel.

God is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, he's rich in love.
He doesn't endlessly nag and scold,
nor hold grudges forever.
He doesn't treat us as our sins deserve,
nor pay us back in full for our wrongs.
As high as heaven is over the earth,
so strong is his love to those who fear him.
And as far as sunrise is from sunset,
he has separated us from our sins.
As parents feel for their children,
God feels for those who fear him.
He knows us inside and out,
keeps in mind that we're made of mud.

Men and women don't live very long;
like wildflowers they spring up and blossom,
But a storm snuffs them out just as quickly,
leaving nothing to show they were here.
God's love, though, is ever and always,
eternally present to all who fear him,

Making everything right for them and their children
as they follow his Covenant ways
and remember to do whatever he said.

19-22 God has set his throne in heaven;
he rules over us all. He's the King!
So bless God, you angels,
ready and able to fly at his bidding,
quick to hear and do what he says.
Bless God, all you armies of angels,
alert to respond to whatever he wills.
Bless God, all creatures, wherever you are—
everything and everyone made by God. And you, O my soul, bless God!

This is out of the Message version and I just love the way that it is worded! This chapter reminds me of who God really is and how much He does love me. This is so special to me because in a very hard time in my life God led me to this chapter in Psalms and I memorized it and said it everyday all through that storm. 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul;

11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pities his children,
So the LORD pities those who fear Him.
14 For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass;

[2] He drew me up from the desolate pit,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
[3] He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the LORD.
[4] Blessed is the man who makes
the LORD his trust,
who does not turn to the proud,
to those who go astray after false gods!
[5] Thou hast multiplied, O LORD my God,
thy wondrous deeds and thy thoughts toward us;
none can compare with thee!
Were I to proclaim and tell of them,
they would be more than can be numbered.
[6] Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire;
but thou hast given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering
thou hast not required.
[7] Then I said, "Lo, I come;
in the roll of the book it is written of me;
[8] I delight to do thy will, O my God;
thy law is within my heart."
[9] I have told the glad news of deliverance
in the great congregation;
lo, I have not restrained my lips,
as thou knowest, O LORD.

[10] I have not hid thy saving help within my heart,
I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation;
I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness
from the great congregation.

[1] Vindicate me, O LORD,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
[3] For thy steadfast love is before my eyes,
and I walk in faithfulness to thee.
[11] But as for me, I walk in my integrity;
redeem me, and be gracious to me.

Psalm 139:1-18

O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.
You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake, I am still with you.

exalt his name together:hug:

Psalm 34

1I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
11Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
20He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
21Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. 22The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Just reading Psalm 47 (Praise His Holy Name.) :pp

1 Praise to God, the Ruler of the Earth
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
2 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#) For the Lord Most High is awesome;
He is a great King over all the earth.
3 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#) He will subdue the peoples under us,
And the nations under our feet.
4 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#) He will choose our inheritance for us,
The excellence of Jacob whom He loves.

5 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#)God has gone up with a shout,
The Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#)Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#)For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with understanding.

8 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?translation=nkjvp&book=Psa&chapter=47#) God reigns over the nations;
God sits on His holy throne.

The people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
He is greatly exalted.

Psa 118:1 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Psa 118:4 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) Let all who fear the Lord repeat: "His faithful love endures forever." Psa 118:5 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) In my distress I prayed to the Lord, and the Lord answered me and rescued me. Psa 118:6 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) The Lord is for me, so I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Psa 118:7 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) Yes, the Lord is for me; he will help me. I will look in triumph at those who hate me. Psa 118:8 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) It is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in people. Psa 118:9 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/tools/printer-friendly.pl?book=Psa&chapter=118&version=NLT#) It is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

I like Psalm 118 especially because of the repetition of "His faithful love endures forever."
As Derick Prince once said near the end of his life, one thing he has learned is that God is faithful.
A saying I use during hard times is: "No matter what it looks like. No matter what it feels like, God is faithful, faithful, faithful!

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. IN JESUS MY LORD. Parsonsmom

Thank you, Parsonsmom, for posting Psalm 1. This is one of my favorite psalms and I love it set to music. One of my friends is making pre-arrangements for his funeral and I have encouraged him to use this psalm as it is such an expression of who he is.

I will love You, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;

My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised;

So shall I be saved from my enemies.

Sometimes these are verses for warfare for me...sometimes worship...sometimes for my prayers.

I began today with this Psalm. It is one I often use as part of my morning prayers..and easy to memorize too since it is only five lines.

Psalm 100:
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his ;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. (NIV)

( I have this longing deep inside me to be in the presence of the Most High God, sometimes it gets nearly overwhelming. I wonder how long til' I get to see Him and be with Him atlast )

The Psalm I often include in my prayers: Psalm 63

1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek theee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand up holdeth me.
9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

This morning my praise-prayers included Psalm 95. Here are the first seven verses.

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; 7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care. [Psalm 95:1-7]..(NIV) :)

These words become more meaningful to me the older I get...as I become aware that my time here on earth...in this body is coming to a close.

Praise ye the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul.

While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises into my God while I have my being.

Our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases (Psalm 115:3)

The LORD is righteous in all His ways And kind in all His deeds (Psalm 145:17)

"Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." (Psalm 103:1-7)
