Time to begin Chapter 16.... I pray many will join with us to learn and share with one another what the Lord teaches us in this chapter.:hug:

John 16 (NKJV)

1) "These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.

2) They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think he offers God service.

3) And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.

4) But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

I haven't been very good about getting this going, have I?:blush: Sorry.....

Jesus was preparing the disciples for future persecution and why....He didn't tell them these things until they could handle what He was saying, but there was still much they did not understand until after the resurrection.

:hug: I'm sorry too. Joe and I have been working our 8 hour jobs then going over to work on the house every evening and it is really wearing us out. It will be so nice to be moved and not have to go back and forth between houses everyday.

Just thought I would share a few thoughts on these verses :).

John 16 (NKJV)

1) "These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.

I was thinking on this verse and I thought of a few verses where it spoke about not stumbling.

NKJ) Psalm 119:165 Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble.

NKJ) 2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

I really like this verse......NASB) Psalm 121:
2 My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who keeps you will not slumber.

If you think about it there are many things we go through in this life that could make us stumble. And we have had our share of trials and tribulations. And I guess there will be more before our life here is over. But we have our Rock. Jesus who we cling to tightly and who clings to us. Jesus who will keep our feet from stumbling. Another verse that gives me comfort is Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren."

Jesus prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail. Jesus has also prayed for us (John 17). I know I could not make it without Jesus. For my faith would have already been crushed and gone. I may stumble a little now and then:cry: but Jesus picks me up and keeps me going.

John 16:2) They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think he offers God service.

the time is coming that whoever kills you will think he offers God service. That time is also now. That reminds me of 9-11-01 when those who perpetrated the destruction of the twin towers and how they were brain washed into believing they were doing God a service. I could picture them standing before God and saying, "but we did this for you" and Jesus saying, "depart from me I never knew you."
And all that is going on today, those who are killing and believing they are doing God a service. It is sad. I feel sad for those who are so brainwashed and blinded. I feel sad for them for the day they stand before God. There will be much weeping.

John 16:3) And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.

If they had truly known the Father they would have known Jesus. John 14:9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.

John 16:4) But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

Just as Jesus did not tell the disciples things until they were ready, He also does the same with us. And it is wonderful we have the Holy Spirit to help us to learn and remember God's word and to understand the things we need to.

John 14:25 "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Thank you Lord Jesus for the Holy Spirit, our helper, advocate, teacher, standby, all that we need who is always with us.

Blessings:hug:

Here are a few more verses. We can think about them and share what our thoughts are and how they speak to us.:hug:

NASB) John 16:5 "But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?'

6 "But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

7 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

8 "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;

11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

Hi Deb!:hug: Great insight on the first few verses. On the next few, I am meditating on them....I will post in the next couple days.

I tried a few times to post....I knew what I wanted to write, but.......:)

NASB) John 16:5 "But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?'

6 "But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

I can't even imagine the sadness they must have felt, not really understanding what was about to happen.

7 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

8 "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;

11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

By sending the Holy Spirit, the world would be changed - showing that Jesus paid the price for sin, our need for a Savior (we have no righteousness on our own), and that s*tan has been judged - and those not in Christ will be judged with him.

12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

The apostles could not understand any more until the Holy Spirit came.

Praise God for the Holy Spirit living in me, convicting, teaching, guiding and directing!

Amen! Thank you Brenda. :hug:

I am going to post a few more verses :) ......

(NASB) John 16:13)"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

crossreferences....John 14:17) that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

Such an awesome promise. The Holy Spirit who is to abide with us and will also be in us. Our helper, teacher, standby, advocate, one who loves us and also walks along side us. The promise that we are never alone, for Jesus has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Thank you Father God for your Spirit of truth.

John 14:26)"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Which this verse reminded me of this in Luke.....

Luke 21:15) for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute.

And as I looked at this crossreference....

Matthew 10:20)"For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

This was awesome to think upon...."but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you".

Just think on that one..the Spirit of our Father speaking through us. That is an awesome thought.

John 16:14)"He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

crossreference....John 7:39)But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

John 16:15)"All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.

crossreference...John 17:10)and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them.

May Jesus be glorified in us.

Blessings :hug:

Next set of verses.......

(NASB) John 16:16)"A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me."

17) Some of His disciples then said to one another, "What is this thing He is telling us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?"

18) So they were saying, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is talking about."

19) Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, "Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me'?

20) "Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy.

21) "Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.

22) "Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

Blessings :hug:

21) "Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.

I was thinking on this verse because I can so relate to it......I vaguely remember anything about childbirth. I know it must have been difficult and painful, but the joy of seeing my child wiped out that pain and anguish.

No matter how hard this life is and how much sorrow I have, there is still joy in knowing what Jesus did for me and that He forgave me and gave me new, eternal life. My grief in my old life turned into joy when Jesus appeared!

The disciples' grief turned into joy when Jesus appeared to them after the Resurrection.

Thought I would post a few more verses......

(NASB) John 16:23) "In that day you will not question Me about anything Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.

24) "Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.

25) "These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father.

26) "In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf;

27) for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

Hi sis :hug:

to be honest I had trouble with some of these verses. I guess I am still struggling with some things. As I read verse 23 I wondered, maybe God didn't hear my prayers. Because Nathan wasn't healed. I don't understand that and probably never will. I know someday God will let me understand and it may not be until I see Him face to face. And in the meantime even though my heart is broken, I trust Him.

I do have joy though because I know Nathan is with Jesus. I have never heard a child so inquisitive about God. He was so precious. You should have seen how his face would light up when he talked about wanting to see God and Jesus. I have joy because I know I will get to see my precious Nathan again someday.

John 16:27) for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

I love verse 27. The Father Himself loves us because we love Jesus and believe He came from the Father. We love Jesus because He first loved us. I would always tell Nathan how much God loved him. In spite of all that he endured he knew God loved him. In spite of all we endure, I am thankful that God loves us.

Love you sis :hug:

(NASB) John 16:28) "I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and going to the Father."
29) His disciples said, "Lo, now You are speaking plainly and are not using a figure of speech.
30) "Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we believe that You came from God."
31) Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?
32) "Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
33) "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

Jesus said in the world we would have tribulation.

Tribulation NOUN: 1. Great affliction, trial, or distress; suffering: Their tribulation has finally passed.
2. An experience that tests one's endurance, patience, or faith.

But even in tribulation we can have peace by being in Christ. The only way to have that peace is to trust God. Jesus said to take courage He has overcome the world. In Christ we can also overcome the world. In Christ we are not defeated. In Christ we have the victory.

Because He overcame the world, we know who we are in Him, that we have access to our God. Jesus bridged the gap between us in our sin and our Holy God and we know what our future holds after this life!:pp
