Well, I got this from the female HL forum so I figured I'd use it. If it ain't broke, why fix it ;) Although I cut some stuff out...
There is no magic pill to help us lose weight although it may seem like there is as we see people lose weight from using pills all the time. There are alot of side effects to those pills though so many don't go that route and shouldn't be advised. The route to healthy living which includes losing weight is simply a sensible eating plan and exercise.
As ACCM noted...not eating more than what we need. This doesn't mean we can never eat what we consider "bad food" again. This means we eat foods in moderation. There is no harm in treating yourself to something you truly love once or twice a week. If you don't, you may fall off your diet faster as you may feel deprived. Eat in moderation and watch your portion size. Skip the biggie size!
I also wish to add that your mentality and emotional state plays a part in losing weight. Some things that may hindered you:
1. I would sometimes say "this little bit won't hurt"...well YEAH IT DOES! Because I said it often. Once or twice a week doesn't hurt...everyday does.
2. Our emotional well being plays a part in our health. When I was very depressed I could not lose a pound to save my life and I am not the type to overeat when depressed or sad. The bible does talk about our emotional state and health as well:
David went through depression (amongst other things) which effected his health:
Psalm 38:6-7
6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
Psalm 31:10
My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
Here is another verse:
Proverbs 15:29-30
29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.
3. Do not deprive yourself...eating healthy does not mean never having what you like again. It means you have less of it ;).
I'd like to hear how other people lost weight! I myself went on the weight watchers points diet. The funny thing was that it was only sensible eating with proper portions. But I think having to write down what I ate and having my meal planned every day is what helped me. I still ate some of the stuff I considered bad, but now I fit it in to my points when I wanted it. Two things happened...I ate smaller portions of it which still hindered my craving and I found that I wanted it less and less ;)
How did you lose the weight?
Scriptures for healthy living
1 Cor. 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? [20] For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
2 Cor. 6:16
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
"I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people."
Philippians 4
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
ACCM Advice (she's a nutritionist) I left this in here also cause it's good advice:
* DRINK WATER, 1 glass for every 10kg you weigh +2... thus if you weigh 80 kg, it is 1x8+2=10 glasses of water a day ...If you are not used to drinking water it is gonna be a new lifestyle change for you to learn to do so :)
* CHEW your food propperly... 3 chews is NOT enough.... 30 times is much better  Remember , when you chew your food, you will reach the point of satisfaction sooner than when you just swallow on the third bite..
* In a Jewish house hold, at Passover time, the house is searched for all "Yeast" (which is symbolic of sin) Find what it is in your life that causes you to eat..... and prayerfully get rid of it, I am not saying that you are sin-filled when you are overweight, no, that is not what I am saying...yet, what I am saying is :::: When you eat more than what your body needs/uses... there is 'something else' that you feed... Be it "rejection" , "low selfworth",,,,,,????.....One of my clients was feeding "Suicide", and once that was dealt with,,,, the 'appetite' was satisfied and thus the weight came down at a rate of 1kg (2.2lb) a week  ...:pp
* SIT when you eat, do not eat on the run, your brain needs to register that you are eating.... It is easy to eat your portion whilst preparing the meal, and sit down to eat a full helping esp. when you have a weight problem.... (I used to be able to eat a whole meal whilst preparing supper, and then sit down and eat a full meal with the family... )
* The key word is: BALANCE.... remember, you'll be changing a lifestyle, if it took you 10 years to gain 40kg, don't expect to reduce it in 1 month... set small achievable goals... you will be more encouraged every time when you reach a small goal, that the bigger goal will fall into your lap easier.... remember an ant eats away at a biscuit one bite at a time :)
* Remember, do not eat when you are upset, then food becomes "Comfort" It does not shout back at you, it does not fight with you, it does not behave bad to you.... do not make food your "Comfort-friend" Food is for nutrition... and more does not make you feel better, it makes you feel worse about yourself :(
* Do not buy yourself, nor your children sweets as a gift for doing well at school, or as a bribe....:o or a treat.... Teach then to eat "Jerusalem toffees" (that is "dates") Give then dried figs...or fresh fruit even better...
* Lunch boxes:.... Cherry tomatoes, small cucumbers, fresh/dried fruits, Bran muffins with dates and raisens, Olives, carrot sticks, (Food that requires chewing :) )
* Do not forget about protein when you learn new ways of eating :)... remember to cut off all visible fats before preparing your meat. That means to remove the skin of the chicken before cooking it :) and also of the mutton-choppy....
* Eat healthy fats, eg. Olive oil... eg. on salads. Use Grapseed oil for when you want to make potatoe in the oven (Shake the potatoe wedges in some grapeseed oil, and then bake them on a tray in the oven,,,delicious!!
* Do not weigh yourself!! Rather set a goal of fitting into your clothes that are too small.. or for your clothes to fot better... because remember if you exercise, your muscles weight more than fat.... rather work towards a firmer body than a 'lighter' one ;)
OK, with all that said... let's stoke up the grill, put on a few steaks and let's talk...
