Hey Baddlegg. First off, it's good to hear of anyone earnestly seeking to know more about God through His word. A few days ago I made an excellent purchase that pertains exactly to what you are looking for. I enjoy reading the Bible and do so on a daily basis but like you I wanted to know more about what I was reading.

I picked up "The Apologetics Study Bible" by Holman publishing. It is an incredible resource and has put a new spark into my Bible study. It has *tons* of footnotes that cover nearly every verse in the Bible. It also has interesting articles and biographies relating to passages in every book. I can't recommend it enough! I look forward to free time to read the Bible and see what else I'll learn each day. Good luck in your search for knowledge; this Bible would be an excellent tool!
