Re: Canon: closed, open, other?
If you let a camel stick his nose under the wall of your tent, before you know it, the entire camel will be in the tent with you.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

blessings,

PS: the intent of this thread is NOT to be contentious, rather, simply to examine reasons, assumptions, etc, regarding the idea of a closed canon.

So is the "perfect" our Bible, or is the "perfect" our Savior when He returns for His Bride?
I believe the next 3 scriptures bring v10 into a context that shows us that the "perfect" is when Jesus has come.
v11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Verse 12 explains that we will be face to face with the "perfect". Verse 12 also explains that the "perfect" KNOWS us and when face to face with the "perfect", we will KNOW ourselves as the "perfect" knows us.
Associating that context with the Bible and not Jesus... that don't make any sense to me.
Watchmen,
Thought hit me today while commenting in another thread.
Matthew 12:33 33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart[g] brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
In that 1 Cor 13:11-12... we find that we will know ourselves FULLY as we are know. Today we see only in part and it seems that Jesus is explaining some of that part in the Matthew scriptures. We are known by our fruit but that doesn't show our true selves (HOW good or HOW evil)... just enough so that a judgment can be assessed.
Man can "hide" evil in their hearts and continue to talk the talk and only those with discernment can assess through that.
I know that when I was in the period of sin years ago and all the while, serving at church... when that prophet came up to me and began to give me that prophetic word of "my sin"... yeah, that gift (of prophecy) is in FULL operation today and has not ended because the perfect is NOT the Bible.
Once before Jesus... ALL our words, all or GOOD and all our EVIL will be KNOWN to us as Jesus judges us while we are "face to face".

I agree, Slug1. Paul had previously stated, For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. He then proceeded to give a discourse regarding the nature of love...which was a brightly polished mirror for the Corinthians, and for us, to view ourselves. When we only see dimly, it is because we have not allowed love to accurately reflect us. The bulk of the first letter to the Corinthians was a contrast regarding spiritual immaturity (psuchikos) and spiritual maturity (pneumatikos). The body of Christ in Corinth was malfunctioning and weak because of the former.
W :)
PS: the very idea that Paul was speaking of the Bible in the vv 8-10 of chapter 13 comes from a psuchikos approach to the scriptures and is very needed to prop up the cessationists views.

Hooah... I agree! I used those scriptures falsely for many years when that doctrine had me in bondage.
Re: Canon: closed, open, other?
Bondage is precisely the correct word and condition. The cessationist pov is a wisdom of man pove...which is a legalistic, bondage-inducing pov...one that seeks to control people and God. Praise Him that we're free of it, Slug1!
