    Hi Mark.

How does Jesus tell us to treat our enemies?

Hi Pinky. Before I answer again, have you read this whole thread?
"May the Lamb that was slain receive the just reward for His sufferings." A quote by Moravian missionary that sold himself (along with a friend) into slavery to reach those that the slave owner prevented from hearing the gospel.

May I live for Him and not for me.

I have to step out for an hour or so. When I get back I will check the comments.

I'm afraid there might be 20 more pages added to this thread in that short time. LOL.

    Love in Christ,

    1 Tim 6:3,4
tells us of the supremacy of Christs teaching.
God tells us that anyone who teaches contrary to His teaching is conceited and understands nothing.
Hence i take the teaching of Christ and the new testament as above all.

    to really to as basic as possible;
let's look at Christs reaching, as He said it in the English language.

    Matt 5:39
"Do not resist an evil person."

    Matt 5:44
    "Love your enemies."

In Romans, God says before telling us to submit to the governing authorities.

    Rom12:14
    "Bless those who persecute..."

    Rom12:17
"Never pay back evil for evil."

    Rom12:20
"If your enemy is hungry , feed him, and if he is thirsty give him a drink."

NO WHERE EVER IN THE NEW TESTAMENT ARE WE TOLD TO FIGHT A PHYSICAL WAR.
Completely out of context. You have so conveniently left out the majority of Christ's teaching.

wshhhhhhh, I have a couple of pages to catch up on....

He didn't allow government. He created it and purposed it. He brought government into being to bless good men and curse evil men.

Again, let's not confuse king with government. Israel had a government before they had a king. When they asked for a king, they asked for something they should not have asked for.
Just so I am clear, are you saying that God created the government of men?

btw, it was God's will that HE BE THEIR KING, and that HIS government would be their government, so, my point stands..these things are written.

I didn't say that. So tell me, were you anti war before you began your studies?
Actually, I did not have an opinion.

god commanded to kill and god commanded an eye for an eye.

so why do we not carry that out ?

..and, that is what is at the heart of this problem.

People want to pick and choose from the old covenant what they want to follow and what they don't.

That is why we need to go by the NEW, and leave the old to those whom were under it.

Interesting observation. I wasn't aware that all the no-war commentators are women.

That observation has the potential to take this thread into a whole new direction. LOL.

If I'm not mistaken, I think most of the 'pro-war' group (for lack of a better term) are military men. Please correct me if I am wrong.

(just for the record, my husband is retired military)

    Hi Mark,

Some people are carnal. But even so, God told us how people in government are to function. If people in government don't do as God commanded, they have sinned. God said government was to wield his sword of wrath. So it should be wielded. Whether one is a Christian or not, one should carry out the commands of God concerning government. If he is Christian, then he most certainly should carry out God's commands concerning government.
Now, let's put the shoe on the other foot, ok?

Let's say that according to your reasoning here, and justice through governments of men, that God NOW sends another government to correct the evils of america......

for you must know that america has many evils....they are not without sin...and, in fact, they are the among the worst, as God counts sin, because they have pride, and pride is the worst sin, according to the bible..you know the old saying...don't do as I do, do as I say.

Anyways...so, when God sends His wrath on America, which is coming btw...do you think that God wants christians to be in the war at that time to undergo the wrath of God?

    NOT.

It does not add up..God never wanted HIS people involved in these worldly matters, for that very reason, you see?

He does not want HIS wrath that HE DOES fulfill through human governments to fall ON HIS OWN, but your doctrine makes that impossible.

So, all I have to say is that when it occurs, which it will, then MAYBE the christians will see it.

We turn the other cheek. But those in authority, they do not turn the other cheek! They put in jail, kill, and pretty much keep order. In Rev, Jesus will rule with a rod of iron.
    Mark,

Please explain how a christian can do both at the same time...turn the other cheek and kill his enemies at the same time. It is not possible, bro.

What do you want those christian soldiars to do, go out in the field and when the bullets fly, turn the other cheek to them?

    It makes no sense.

You cannot serve both God and man.

    peaceandlove,

thought this was interesting for this thread

21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. 23Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

You're welcome. God place a ministry dealing with Christian's who serve in the military after He equipped me for 21 years of military service. There may be more on the site that may be of help.

I think it might take less time to read my entire Bible.

Seriously though, I have read most of this thread. This is a subject that I take a strong interest in.

I think Christ's teaching on how we are to treat our enemies is pretty simple and straight forward. It's not as complicated as we sometimes make it out to be.

I don't judge anyones salvation over this issue, to make that clear.

IMHO, these wars and rumours of wars are designed and waged by men to bring the beast kingdom to power. The Lord is allowing it, yes...........it's all about the strong delusion and the apostacy.

I think He is allowing it because so many in the churches seem to support it.

As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

    God bless and good night,
    pinky
