Well there definitely is a time to wrap things up, and this might be it. But I will say one more time, Janet, there is more to the OT than the covenant. I am not talking to you about the covenant.
The unfortunate naming convention has people thinking that the Tanakh (a different word for what Christians call the Old Testament) is all about law and that none of it applies any longer. But the character of God is still the character of God. He is not a different God in the NT than He was to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
So I will not call it OT any more. I will call it Tanakh. It is a wonderful and precious history of the interaction of God with His chosen people. In those pages for example, we learn many of the Names of God and how they describe His character. He is not what we make Him out to be, He is what He is. And He has gone to great lengths to communicate Himself to us. We are terribly remiss to discard 44 books that tell us about Him. They are all love letters from Him, and every word is precious.
If you have the strength and the courage to live what you have advocated here in this thread, Janet, I commend you. But I urge you not to miss the rest of the story.
Blessings,
Road Warrior

But until that time you live in Never Never Land with little old Peter Pan. It's a great world I suppose but problem is... it's MAKE BELIEVE. There is no such place.
I long for that day as does many a soldier. But when I see folks like you who call it a sin to wage that war.... says who? Your doctrine is so full of holes I can't even count them all. Grab a verse here and grab a verse there and pretend it backs you up? Yeah.... like I've shown already.... you are so far from context it is really and truly sad.
Well there you have it folks....

Your last statement is very true. Jesus said there will be wars, and rumours of wars, but the end is not yet. No, dear heart, we do not want war, what are you crazy!!!? Only crazy people would want war. We are not crazy. But we are realistic. We live in a real world, and it is not pretty.
And since we do know that "lots of them are coming" we know that we need to be ready - on as many levels as possible.
I'd like to say "pack your rapture bag" but I'm afraid a lot of us are going to see tribulation such as we have never imagined. Some of us old geezers might be gone, but you young'uns might have some hard times.
I will still pray that our soldiers will be able to hold the wolf at bay, and not allow him to enter into our country. The foxes are already here.

Amen.
The time for war in this passage is speaking of the difference between the old and new covenants.
The new covenant speaks of a command to beat one's sword into a pruning hook...hmmm, was that just a suggestion?
Or, was it a new day?..and, I am speaking in context of "christians", not the world. Job was a christian when he spoke this...I think that is what we are somehow forgetting..or at least some of us...appear to be forgetting.
Am I reading you right, PP?

According to that passage... who dictates when that time is?'
Clues for you.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.
and
Ecclesiastes 8:6 For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, when a man's trouble is heavy upon him.
7 If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?
8 No man has authority to restrain the wind with the wind, or authority over the day of death; and there is no discharge in the time of war, and evil will not deliver those who practice it.

We will see if this needs to close, I am still hoping for a few conclusions to be settled.
As for the old covenant...I agree there is more to it than law. There are the prophets, and the psalms, and the proverbs, all which are written for our learning, even today.
The law books, though...they are what is not for us.
Genesis is a really good book to understand the beginning of things, in mho...and, especially to understand WHY God had to ADD the law books..
