I received an email from my cousin who recently returned
from Belize where a tropical storm destroyed some crops.

I'm here in America, California to be exact but I have family
in Central America.

I have started to buy some grocery items from the .99 store
because of cost. It's cheaper for me to get spaghetti sauce,
salad dressing, some fruit, tea, juice etc from there b/c of the
high food cost.

I fear for us. People are starving
to death and the government doesn't care. What can be done?

Hello, Sunsetssplendor! This is a very hard time for people around the world, and I believe very strongly that the food crisis is going to get worse and worse, based on what Scripture tells us will happen during the tribulation period. What I would urge every believer to do, no matter whether you have much in the way of financial resources or very little, is to pray every day--make prayer time a vital part of your life. And when you pray, tell the Lord about your fears--pour it all out to Him. Ask for His peace, ask for courage to face what is coming on the world, ask for strength to live for Him even in the face of dangers, ask for His provision for the things that you need and that your family members and friends need, ask Him for safety of your brothers and sisters in Christ all around the world, and ask Him for knowledge and wisdom to understand where He would lead you and what He would have you do.

You know, I believe that God loves it when we talk to Him, and there have been many times in my life where I'll just ask God a question that's been on my mind and say, "Lord, would you show me the answer to this?" and one way or another He has always come through with an answer. Perhaps when we ask His provision for our needs--whether it be an answer to a question, a physical need such as food or clothing or shelter, or peace when we are afraid or any other thing--He especially responds to us because we have reached out to Him like children reaching out to their Father.

The European Central Bank's dilemma over interest rates deepened yesterday as new figures pointed to a “toxic cocktail” of stagnant growth and spiralling inflation.

Jean-Claude Trichet, the President of the ECB, hinted this month that borrowing costs would rise to control inflation, which has soared to a record 3.7 per cent.

However, there was growing speculation that the ECB may keep rates at 4 per cent at its next rate meeting on July 3 after European manufacturing and service companies reported declining activity for the first time in five years and corporate sentiment in Germany plunged.

Bethlehem - French President Nicolas Sarkozy says Jerusalem ought to be shared by Israelis and Palestinians.
Speaking on Tuesday in the West Bank town of Bethlehem, he said Jerusalem had a history or plurality. "It's a holy city for three faiths, Jews, Christians and Muslims," he said. "Can Jerusalem be for one side and not the other? I don't think so."

New York - Oil prices are soaring further into record territory, breaking past $140 a barrel after the president of the Organisation of Petroleum Export Countries (Opec) said prices could rise well above $150.

Reports that Libya is considering cutting oil production are also sending prices higher.
Light, sweet crude for August delivery has traded as high as $140.05 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices are also up on a growing sense that the US central bank may not raise interest rates until late this year. Many analysts believe the Fed's rate cuts over the past year, which have weakened the dollar, have helped send oil prices skyrocketing.

Also, there was someone in another post who mentioned a story about St. Patrick, but I can't remember who the person is that posted it. The story was that St. Patrick asked the Lord to spare Ireland from the Tribulation period and the Lord said He would grant the request. Have you heard about this story? A person we know from Ireland said he had heard it, but he added that there was another part to it, that God also told St. Patrick that before the 7-year Tribulation period had begun Ireland would be drowned. Any chance you have some insight to share about this?

Wombat, I'm from Ireland as well so this story is very interesting to me, do you know any more about it?
