Thread: The election:

    Question The election:

    Good evening all:

I briefly scanned the titles of the discussion and noticed that I didn't see anything about the elections as headings. Is talking polotics banned here
I certainly would understand if it was but i'm just curious about peoples thoughts and didn't want to go to a news site and deal with foul language and such.

Random thought, I see bumper stickers all over that tell me to vote for Obama but I am very concerned about the thought of having a muslim in office. I think McCain is only the lesser of two evils but at least he's not a muslim right?

Also, on Prop 8 in CA (gay marriage ban) I sure hope people vote Yes! I do not want my 9 year old daughter being taught in school that being homosexual is "normal" or "ok"

There is a whole forum dedicated to the election. Not sure if you can view it though. Also, Obama is not a muslim and it's quite ignorant to say he is.

I don't think "ignorant" would be a preferable term. Misinformed or simply incorrect might be a better way to point out the mistake. I do think it an important point to bring to light however, that Obama is definitely NOT Muslim.

I have posted in a couple of threads here on political conversations that were moved to an area I was not allowed...I still do not know where or why I can not view.

I can relate to wanting to find a place to discuss the election in a civil manner. Any political or news forums can get very passionate and defensive even offensive and lose any chance of being informative. I have been following this campaign very closely for the last couple of months now since I will be voting for the first time in the 26 years I have been of age.

What little I have seen in this forum, honestly, has not been very objective and is very conservative, which I guess should be no suprise.

Personally I think moral values should be taught in the home and trump what may be taught elsewhere. I have a 9 year old daughter and I am certain she is not being "taught" any such values as homosexuality in her school. Whether unfortunate or not, and despite what our beliefs may be, America has said that being homosexual is "ok" for those who believe it is.

As far as the two tickets running, both are against "gay marriage" and feel that marriage is still an institution between a man and a woman. They both also agree on some form of a "civil union" which would give gay couples similar benefits that married couples have such as hospital visitation...etc.

Just in case this thread disappears like the others

Guys, there's an Elections forum, but it requires that you have a certain number of posts and that you've been here for more than a little bit. That's because it's more controversial in nature. Just hang tight, keep posting.... forum defaults all change eventually. I forget what the exact requirements are for the specialized forums, but I recall having to wait a good bit.

Don't worry, your posts haven't been devoured by The Matrix.

Well it is very disappointing to have participated in a 3 to 5 page thread only to see it vaporize, or perhaps just disappear behind a curtain I am not allowed behind. If those are the rules than they should not be allowed here at all I guess.
Also not sure how long "a bit" is but there is only 19 days left in this election

I just checked. It's 30 days membership, 40 posts, and good reputation (ie. no negative rep) required. Get posting!

That sounds counter productive, kinda like ACORN paying for the number of registrations instead of the number of "valid" ones

    Thanks for the info tho.

Hi Wheatbread and welcome to the forum ...what Coffeecat said....post away and you can join it but it does get heated..I think the reason they want people to wait is in case some are JUST coming to the site for that reason ....politics and not Jesus
The story of Job teaches us that the Devil has to be given permission to attack us. So if God is allowing the attack surely He's planning our victory. He would not allow us to be in a battle we could not win.! God looks for hand-picked people He can send into difficult environments, that He might be glorified. He makes all things "work together for good" (Ro 8:28) so don't be intimidated. Just keep your eyes open and see what God is up to!

Not to try to be confrontational, but I think mlrisser gave good reason for seeking discussion on that topic here.
I can't for the life of me think of any other reason anyone would seek out a christian forum just to discuss politics

Guys, there is an election forum, go participate there, we are not going to have discussions over the US election in AG, you know the rules

I will have to close this thread, I would have just moved it to the Elections Forum, but then some guys in this thread would not be able to see why it isn't here anymore.

    God bless
    Phil

You know, I am sorry I was thinking you were the new member asking.....but to answer your question and please note I do not write the rules nor am I a mod....but that is how the owners of this Christian site set the rules up.....maybe there are some that ban bad language and allow political talk post one...I know AOL bans all bad language....some sites have it set to auto kill the bad words with **** .....

I am thinking but do not know that many people come here to just cause trouble and this MAY weed them out.....I frankly would move the number way above 100 if it was my site.....because if someone didn't want to come to the site for religion or learn about it then they can go to other sites that suit the need to talk on politics and contro topics.......I am sure some if not many have filters
