1 Peter 2:10 (New King James Version)
10] who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Believers are Forgiven Recipients of His Great Mercy
Here's the bottom line, once we were groping in the darkness of sin. We were a miserable sort who lacked any hope. By a merciful deliverance we have been transferred into His family, as part of His Temple, and bear His seal of citizenship in His realm. Any logical mind would ask; Why? Why did He do this? What good in us brought this about? Why, why, why?
As Peter wraps this section, he answers that question. God did this because of His mercy. Read that sentence again. We moved from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted, only because of His deep and abiding mercy. Mercy means we don't receive what we deserve. This great passage reminds Christians of not only what happened to us, but why He did these great things for us.
FOR TODAY: Thank God for His mercy.
