Thread: New cat's in season

    New cat's in season

Driving us potty; have booked her in for Thursday to be fixed. I should've realised this morning when I had to get dressed with her perching on my shoulder. All our other cats are neutered, and she's very disappointed that no-one's interested in a date as she does her 'dance of the seven veils' with lots of brrrp noises and rolling around. She's figured cat no 6 Neo's the best bet as he's the manliest most handsome one of the lot, but she's out of luck there, because he's just scratching his head and saying 'Huh?'. Even elderly Greebo has come to see what all the fuss is about, and taken refuge with DH because it's all too weird. I'll shut her in the bedroom tonight but I don't think anyone's going to get much sleep.

    I feel for you!

I made sure I got my female fixed early!! Before all that craziness started...lol.

    Well....good luck!

She was in season 5 weeks ago apparently, before we got her - the reason the woman had to get rid of her was because her 3-legged rabbit called Tripod kept trying to oblige and falling off. I was told cats don't go into season over winter, they wait till the days are longer. I shouldn't laugh because she's obviously desperate, but it's so funny.

It's kind of sad though - we fed an unneutered tom for a couple of years, whom we called William Whitepaws. Wasn't keen on him widdling in the house but he was so sweet and would join the other 7 for meals. Never did find out if he had an owner despite asking. Last saw him earlier this year with a massive abcess on his face; he disappeared before we could grab him and take him to the emergency vet. Haven't seen him around since so have to conclude he didn't make it. He was a gorgeous tabby boy, the handsomest (and noisiest) cat I've ever encountered. Voice like a foghorn.

Oh poor tom... Yea that is the biggest problem with toms...they fight! I have a neutred male that I finally had to quit letting outside because he kept getting into fights and they abcessed...ewwww...then would have to take him to the vet...high bills! Got tired of it. I got him fixed to stop this sort of thing.... Plus when they spray the odor is horrible and nearly impossible to get rid of.

That is funny about the rabbit...and strange too...

I hope you can keep from going crazy in the next two days listening to her carry on! Maybe get some ear plugs...

We survived. I was expecting a queue of toms in shabby raincoats outside the door, but no sign of anyone new. She's at the vets now and we'll pick her up tomorrow night if everything goes according to plan. They're doing a horizontal spaying across her tummy instead of a side one, because we don't know her history. The vet had some trouble feeling abdominal things where they should be, so he thought it would be best that way; if they went in at the side and found a previous botched spaying which had left an ovary allowing her to go into season, for example, they'd have to do a horizontal incision anyway to sort it out. She'll be microchipped at the same time.

He said she's in excellent health overall, although still quite thin. And she was very well-behaved - one swipe with the claws as he rethought the options for taking her temperature, then tried to hide in DH's coat before climbing all over the office trashing the place. That's my girl She'll be hanging off the light fixtures if they don't watch it - never known such a cat for exploring. Sat on top of the shower cubicle panel the other morning watching me at my ablutions before knocking all the breakfast cereal off the top of the freezer. I miss her not being here already. She does love her Mum.

Poor baby - she's been to the vet numerous times because of the previous skingrafts for her shoulder, which are nearly healed now. DH felt like an absolute rotter as she watched him walk away. She'll spend a few weeks in our bedroom while she heals. Neo will be pleased at the respite - she's been determined to be his girlfriend for the past 48 hours, accidentally tripping over in front of him, dropping her pile of library books, fluttering her eyelashes and blushing, and progressing to direct propositions. Motley ran away because a girlcat looked at him, and Neo's sister Jetta sat there muttering 'Floozy' under her breath. Greebo just said 'Forget romance - the central heating's on.' It's been more entertaining than television.
