    9:38pmScott

    9:38pmAndrew

umm i read the king james version of the bible
    9:38pmScott

    gud
    9:39pmAndrew

    that is what we read
we are all followers of christ
    9:39pmScott

    we'll never become gods.
    ever
    9:40pmAndrew

umm... what was god before he was god??
    9:40pmScott

    He always was
    9:40pmAndrew

    no that makes no sence
    9:40pmScott

    he's god
    9:41pmAndrew

umm yeah but he had to progress from something to become god... he didnt just appear someday
    9:41pmScott

    he always was.
    9:41pmAndrew

ok that has no system and it makes no sence
    9:42pmScott

so that means satan can become infinitely strong then ?
And eventually we'll be able to over take Gods position?
    9:43pmAndrew

god is a god of order there is a system... and no we will not take over his system we will be like him but not take over
    9:45pmScott

so you believe we'll become gods? isnt that how lucifer fell? wanting more and more etc..?
    9:47pmAndrew

umm yes i know that we will have to opportunity to become gods... and yes if we are greedy we will not beable to become gods... we have to live righteously and our desire has to be pure... lucifer was doing neither of these
    9:48pmScott

    so
    ok good
what verse in king james does it say we'll become gods? i gotta read the bible more and more anyways

    9:53pmScott

no man im not here to insult u, im glad u love jesus christ n god n take the time to read the bible, but i think you're just wasting your energy with the wrong religion of mormonism... please just show me where it says this in the old testament or new testament not anything written by joe smith and why jesus never preached this.

Confused Soul - the truth is not an attack...it is the truth.

Scott - that's the best way to discuss the matter with a Mormon - Get them to back up their beliefs with the Bible. You did well by not following his link. They try to get the elders of their faith to do their arguing for them, but they rarely use the Bible too.

Agreed. Truth does not equal "attack". More Christians need to stand up for the truth.

Mormons are NOT Christians. It's a cult. There are many good web sites (CARM and Got Answers) that can walk you through step-by-step the heresy taught by Mormons.

I agree. I don't think it is an attack to state the truth. So many Mormons do not know the truth, not even of Joseph Smith. I have had many conversations with devout Mormons who have no idea who their own Bible says Jesus is and are not encouraged to seek.

    Nah I was curious.

"For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."

    Hmmm whats this mean?

    Edit:

    Scott

I have a more open mind to evolution than becoming a God. But I will look it over, because I care about you.
    9:59pmAndrew

This sentence may be true, but how you go about discussing the truth can be highly offensive and as soon as you offend or hurt someone's deepest held beliefs, you could close them up tight forever.

Jesus was bold, but he was gentle in all that he did. He even sat in front of a pagan temple and said nothing more than words of comfort to his believers.

Let me see if I can find the name. I can describe it to you, though cus I went there this summer! It was pretty neat in a historical kind of way.

It was a temple to Pan. It was where Jesus asked Peter, "who do you say I am?" and then referenced the "Gates of Hades," which was the temple he was sitting by--thought to be a gateway of some sort because it was built into the face of a cave and something, something...I can't remember the rest. picture gigantic red rock and a clear, cold spring that eventually leads into the Jordan River.

Is this the passage you're referring to?

    Matthew 16:
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Hell....the nightmare you can't wake up from.

Sin is like electricity, it takes the path of least resistance. (the shortest path to ground).

Jesus said He is “The Way”, not “A” way. Jesus said He is “the Truth”, not “A” truth. Jesus said He is “The Life”, not “A” life. No man comes to the Father but by Me. Are we serving a man or are we serving God?

yup! that's the one. If I remember correctly, the temple was mostly for Pan, but also encompassed other deities and the main cave was thought to be a gateway to Hades or something to that effect. When Jesus said, "The Gates of Hades will not prevail" he was referencing the Temple and was saying that the these pagan gods and beliefs will not hold out against Him.
I still can't find the name of the temple, but it's right outside of Caesarea Philippi.

I had to read this twice, as I thought you were saying what Andrew was saying and he was saying what you were saying. lol, not a good mistake to make.

Anyways, you handled it well. Nothing aggressive, just simple questioning that made him think.

Btw, I had no idea mormons believe you could become God lol.

God-like I believe, but not God. I have a mormon friend that I've spoken to about such things. He was trying to explain to me the stratification of Heaven and what you do to move up through the ranks or whatnot. It was very confusing.

Whether theres anything in our bible that blatantly says such things isn't so much the point. Theres a lot of obscure verses that no one understands and the mormon believers have interpeted them in such a way that they can uphold their beliefs as much as catholics can reference the bible to uphold the idea of purgatory. and, really, about as much as anyone can reference the idea of the trinity. None of the above are directly stated in the bible.

No one can answer this hmm?
