Luke 1:26-28 (New King James Version)
26] Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27] to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28] And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
The Incredible "Where" of the Christmas Story
Not in Nazareth of all places! The improbable of God's Christmas plan began with where the announcement of the incarnation was made. God shows that He is the God of the unexpected, beginning with announcing His plan there. You see, Mary was from Nazareth of all places! Nazareth certainly wasn't where you would expect God to deploy the angel Gabriel to make this earth changing announcement. In the eyes of that world, Nazareth was considered Podunk City, a place that was neither a cultural icon, nor a famous place. If you were from Nazareth you might prefer that it was in your rear view mirror as you moved out of town.
Yet the place for the greatest of all announcements was this dusty, nondescript, little nowhere called Nazareth.
