Matthew 19:16-17 (New King James Version)
16] Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” 17] So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
Any Good Within Us Comes From Christ
The Rich young ruler, believing Jesus to be merely a good teacher, called Him good Christ set the young man straight immediately. If he did not recognize Him as Lord and Savior, he could not call Him good. Only God is good! The young man, who desired eternal life, wanted to do something Jesus wanted him to be something, a new creation in Christ.
As a follower of Christ, I am in a different position from those who are trying to be on their own. Those outside Christ hope that by being good, they can please God, or if they are not sure God exists, they want to gain approval from others we do comes from the Christ life within us.
FOR TODAY: God does not love us because we are good. God wants to make us good because He loves us.
