    Zoroastrianism

    I have to do an essay on Zoroastrianism for school but I have no idea what they believe. All the books at the libary about it are sold out . Does anyone know thier basic beliefs?
    I dont need anything to long and of too much detail (as then that may be cheating ). Just the basics.

    Thank you

    in 2007, I wrote a paper on the influence of Zoroastrian eschatology on Judaism and Christianity. I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

    I think that the Star Wars series was influenced by Zoroastrianism. It has a similar premise with the "dark side" and "light side".
    ...be strengthened with power through His Spirit into the inner man, that Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be full of strength to apprehend with all the saints what the breadth and length and height and depth are and to know the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God. Eph. 3:16-19

    While I know there are plenty that would disagree with me, it is my opinion that Zoroastrianism arises from the influence of captive Israel on the Persians after they take over Babylon. It is no accident that Isaiah states of the Persian Cyrus:

    Isaiah 44:28 Who says of Cyrus, 'He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, "You shall be built," And to the temple, "Your foundation shall be laid."
    It is under the Persians that Israel is freed (see Nehemiah and Ezra) and a Persian king even marries an Israelite to be his queen (see Esther).

    The difference is that Christianity, God is holy and supreme, while sin is incomparable to him. In Zoroastrianism, Good and Evil are equal forces.

    I converted to it once... (you can't convert to Zoroastrianism, you can only be born into it).

    They're a type of monotheism, influenced by Judaism, only more mystical and more pantheistic in their viewpoint. Though I never advocate looking at Wikipedia, the article is somewhat accurate. I'd suggest mining it for book resources though - that's about all Wikipedia is worth.

    Haha...I bet they didn't give you the secret decoder ring I got when I joined up

    Seriously ,isn't this group supposed to be the ones from whom the wise men came to visit Jesus as a young child? This website has some info on them as well: http://www.bethlehemstar.net/

    There's no way to really know. It is quite possible considering the Wise Men knew that there was one God and their trust on astrology (which Zoroastrians believe), but there's no way to know for sure. For all we know, it could have been a group of Hellenistic Jews that still adhered to the basic beliefs of Judaism, but had bought into astrology via their Babylonian/Persian/Hellenistic captivity.

    Well, the wise men were not following astrology, they followed the signs God put in the heavens, (stars, planets, etc...) but that is not astrology.

    From webster.com

    astrology: the divination of the supposed influences of the stars and planets on human affairs and terrestrial events by their positions and aspects

    The difference is that astrology believes the stars and planets influence what happens on earth, which is false. The bible makes it clear that God does put signs in the heavens, they do not influence us in the way astrology states though. (ie, the zodiac, you were born in this period, so you will have this type of personality, etc...) God simply knows all, past, present, and future, he set it all in place to work out perfectly.
    While you are on this site, don't debate to win and prove yourself right, but discuss to learn and find truth, and to encourage through a humble spirit. God Bless

    Ephesians 4:1-3
    As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

    From what I've heard, Zoroastrianism/Zarathustrianism was the predominant religion of Iran before Islam basically took over.

    It still is!

    Oh sure, they put Islam infront of it, but Iran (and only Iran) weaves a ton of the stuff together.
    The minstrel boy to the war is gone,
    In the ranks of death ye will find him;
    His father's sword he hath girded on,
    And his wild harp slung behind him;
    "Land of Song!" said the warrior bard,
    "Tho' all the world betray thee,
    One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
    One faithful harp shall praise thee!
