Q: Genesis 1:26 Let us make man in our image

Genesis 1:26 reads:

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the "us" and "our" being used. To me this seems as though it is using the plural form of these pronouns which is hinting at 2 or more "Gods."

What do you guys think?

'Us' and 'our' is referring to the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

John 1:2 tells us that the Word made flesh (Jesus Christ) was with God in the beginning.

Genesis 1:2 tells us the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are together in Genesis.

Also, Colossians 1:12-16 tells us that the Son created all things.

There are two possible answers: 1) the Trinity or 2) God speaking to other heavenly beings, such as angels.

God the Father - Soul
God the Son - Flesh
God the Holy Spirit - Spirit

Us as in the Father and the Son. I hadn't thought the of the Trinity but yes, that's it.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

I too believe this is the first referance of God speaking of Himself in more than one person. In the next verse He says He created man in His own image after saying "let us create man in our image".

The word "Trinity" is not found in the Bible because it was not used for many years after the Bible was written. Kind of like "Dinosaur". The were not called Dinosaurs but still existed without knowing what we would call them

There are many referances to God in the three differant forms. It has already been mentioned how God (His Holy Spirit) moved across the face of teh water at Creation. Moses was allowed to only see God's backside from on the Mount because no man could see God (the Father) and live, yet Abraham ate with God (God in the flesh, Jesus) in the shade of his tent. All three forms were present prior to Jesus' earthly birth. That is awesome

When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended on Him like as of a dove and God spoke from Heaven at the same time. This is a time when we can have all three mentioned doing differant things at the same time but are all still God.
