    Two Columns of Days

There are two columns that give a number to every day
One tallies those to come, the other those that have gone away
    One slowly but surely increases
While the other one slowly decreases

And every day that we are given to live
We should always have something in return to give
Whether it is something uplifting to ones soul
Or just helping another, get God to know

When we reach that final day, when we go to God
And we must face Him alone, with no facade
Will we be able to justify the gift of each day?
Or will we be explaining why we went our own way?

We often think we have plenty of days to come
Then wake up one morning to find we have none
Though we do not know when that will be
By counting each day, it focuses us to see

We should not put off until tomorrow something we could do
For our eyesight is limited, we cannot see the bigger view
We may not get a second chance to plant that seed
We may end up missing someone in need

And what if we miss a friend, counting on tomorrow
Do you really think you could handle that kind of sorrow?
So make sure when you tally your columns of days
That you are making sure each and every day pays

The gift of a day is something not to be abused
I am certain if it is wasted, God will not be amused
