Well ... looks like I've got something to do at work from 1am to 9am while I babysit my cell phone.![]()
DANGIT! I totally missed my own 5000th post!
ak, neither of the links you provided seem to work for me and I'd rather hear the actual debate as opposed to someone else's opinion of it....do you know of any other links to the audio on this thing?
read the link. currently listening to the debate.
i have however watched a debate between D'sousa and Hitchens, where, even as a generally decently well read lay-man Hitchens arguments were more insults than anything and helt no ground. in fact i couldn't figure out the points he was ever trying to make. my friend got his book 'god is not great' and she showed me, (she didn't read it cuz there was 'big' words-which i explained some) anyways, his book was the same thing. i glanced at it, skimmed it looking for solid sound arguments, and only found basless attacks. he's a joke for sure...
haven't heard dennet yet, but since he is 'popular' i have presupposed him to be with the likes of dawkins and hitchens, who i think are plain fools, and can't imagine them being smarter than me, grade 12grad; read about 10 apologetic books ever...maybe i'm wrong, since i don't teach at a university...
Dennet is more reasonable than Hitchens, Harris and Dawkins in that he attempts to put forth some sort of rational argument. Even with that, though, none of it actually makes any sense if you take it off paper and apply it to the real world.
Harris is good for insults
Dawkins for absurd illustrations.
Hitchens for stories about his life.
