It seems like this mentality has creeped up a lot in the Church today..kind of leaving people in a "never doing enough" mentality when walking this walk, leaving them in constant bondage to doing various rituals and ordinances in order to keep them "approved" by God. So my question to you all is, do you think that once one has accepted God's salvific grace through his son within their life..do they need to do any more to receive this gift of salvation?
No. They do not need to do anything in order to receive the free gift of salvation.
My other question would be does the freedom of God's gift keep allow us to do anything we please and not be held accountable unto God's judgement?
We can do anything we please, but we will be chastened here on earth, or taken 'home' early (sin unto death) if we do what we please and not what pleases Him.
"But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world." (1 Corinthians 11:32)
The judgment seat of Christ is where our works will be judged, and those that were not worthy (wrong reasons, selfish motives, etc.) will be burned up as hay and stubble, but those that we did with the right motive, according to His will, will remain (gold, silver, precious stuff).
See 1 Corinthians 3:11 onward, and Hebrews 12.
If the Book be not infallible, where shall we find infallibility? ... Are these correctors of Scriptures infallible? Is it certain that our Bibles are not right, but that the critics must be so? ... We shall gradually be so bedoubted and be criticized that only a few of the most profound will know what is Bible and what is not, and they will dictate to the rest of us. I have no more faith in their mercy than in their accuracy... and we are fully assured that our old English version of the Scriptures is sufficient for plain men for all purposes of life, salvation, and goodness. - C.H.Spurgeon
