These are the only verses in the Bible about gluttony:

    Deut. 21:20
And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

    Proverbs 23:21
For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Now I don't see in here that 11 cookies in a row is gluttony.....

    Love you,

Glory to the Lord our God
Glory to the Lamb on the throne
We open wide the gates of our hearts
With our lips we rise up and pray

As for the second part of your question:

1Co 7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
1Co 7:8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

1Co 7:9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

Paul explains that having a sex drive, is a gift from God, and not having the need is also a gift from God. Not having the need of a spouse, will help us concentrate more on how to serve the Lord, without the distractions that marriage (rightly) demands.

Both are a gift from God, and we should do according to that gift. It is pointless abstaining, if that is not your gift from God.

1Co 7:32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
1Co 7:33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

1Co 7:34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

1Co 7:35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

1Co 7:36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

1Co 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

I think gluttony is being greedy about food.

For me, I would draw the line at where gluttony/overindulgence begins is when you really can't stop yourself. For example, if you have a cookie or two and then put away the box, you are fine. If you just keep eating and just cannot stop, then you have lost control of yourself.

Here is a definition of a glutton, from the Holman Bible dictionary.

GLUTTON One habitually given to greedy and voracious eating. Gluttony was associated with stubbornness, rebellion, disobedience, drunkenness, and wastefulness (Deut. 21:20).

A more general meaning for the Hebrew term as a "good-for-nothing" (Prov. 28:7 TEV) is reflected in some translations: wastrel (Deut. 21:20 REB); profligate (Deut. 21:20 NIV; Prov. 28:7 REB); riotous (Prov. 28:7 KJV).

When Jesus was accused of being a "glutton and wine-drinker" (Matt. 11:19; Luke 7:34), it was in this expanded sense of being one given to loose and excessive living. The Bible knows gluttony makes one sleepy and leads to not working and poverty (Prov. 23:21).

Now that the truth has set me free, i'm going to eat some biscuits. I love Biscuits.

First, I cannot imagine leading such a terrible life of bandage as to think that Christianity is nothing more than a list of do's and don'ts. So sad...

Tell your friend to read 1 Corinthians 7 concerning the sex for pleasure. Paul speaks with a strong legal term (defraud) concerning denying your spouse the marital right of sex. He also gives another reason for sex...

2But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. 3The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 5Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Concerning the cookie, I dunno. I can't even imagine it enough to get my head around it. I will pray that your friend gets out from under the bondage that he is under...
For what mortal has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? ~ Deuteronomy 5:26

If you're not prepared to risk your very life for your "enemy" you have no right to speak to him of love. ~ Daughter

Many say they are called... but I am pretty convinced that with many of them it was the wrong number. ~ Project Peter
