Did i do the right thing?

What would you do here. I stole something from someone and since i still had it i offerd to give it back he didn't want it so i was fine. But then after i left i realized the thing i was going to give back (videogame) was out dated and that might be why he didn't want it back so i gave him somthing else of alot lesser value and he seemed to be happy with it. Am i fine with God if i leave it like it is? I do have an updated version of it but i didn't want to offer that.

Have you confessed to the Lord and asked for forgiveness? If not, then you're not alright with God. If so, then you are forgiven and must repent (turn away) of stealing. This is in no way a license to sin, though! It must be sincere, cause the Lord deals in "hearts," and knows what is in all of our hearts. Amen.

I think that you should at least give back something of (modern day) equal value.

In the O.T. people who stole had to pay four times as much as they stole

    Exodus 22:1
“If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep."

When I was a little kid, I had a really bad habit of stealing, and my Mom always made me pay back four times the amount. The people I stole from usually wouldn't accept more than the original amount, so the rest went to tithe.

With that context, I wouldn't say pay back four times, but I would say at least pay back the full value of the thing.

    God bless
