Blizzard here! Prayers we don't lose our electricity (heat)

We are having a blizzard...they just said our town had ten and a half inches of snow! I don't think we have ever had that much snow and this is suppose to go on all night and through the morning. The winds are really bad too...30 to 40 mph which is why they call it a blizzard...lol. The snow drifts are really bad and there have been alot of roads and highways closed due to those and accidents. My dinning room lights have been flickering a little bit...in this kind of cold I sure don't want to lose my heat! (just had my furnace fixed in time for this too!) Nate is a block away spending the night at a friends..don't want them to lose their lights or heat either. Of course you know how it works...when they go out whole areas are affected.

Also please pray for my sisters and their families...they live in Wichita which is getting alot of freezing rain and sleet...they haven't gotten that much snow yet but are caught in the line between thunderstorms and this winter storm. When this storm line passes a certain point its cold enough to snow...they are right in the mid point. So in some ways they are getting it worse then we are because of the ice. Both my sisters homes at least have fire places that are gas run...so hopefully they can have heat that way if their lights go out. My mom has a fire place too but it would be really hard and dangerous to try to come get us in this ..so please pray we don't lose our lights (heat). thanks.

Its pretty bad out there...I have never been in a blizzard before...I wasn't too concerned until my lights started flickering.. (of course I am staying in the house!)

    God bless

We are just recovering from the blizzard here. We got 18 inches of snow and yesterday just about everything was closed. Today, a lot of schools were closed again, but the sun was shining and the snow was melting fast! I understand your worries about heat, though! Our furnace shuts off when the vent on our roof is covered and sure enough, it shut off! So, when there was a break in the wind, Daniel and our neighbor got on our roof to clear it off and thankfully it worked and everybody was safe and sound.

    Praying for you!

Praying for you, Moonglow and for Becky!
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

Glad to see the broad back up! Thanks for the prayers. Alot of people in surrounding towns have no power...I feel for them because the temp is below freezing the wind chill factor is very cold....brrrr.

Our lights and heat have stayed on. I am so thankful for that. We also got 18 inches of snow! That is alot! I couldn't open the screen front door due to a snow drift...when Nate came home he was able to use his big foot and get enough moved to open it and get inside. Huge drifts in front of the back yard gate so no way through there. Small drift against my garage door but a huge one in the drive way...so I won't be going any where for awhile.. Only those in big 4 wheel drives are getting around though I did see a van going down the street. People are getting stuck everywhere from what I am hearing...the bottom out or slide off the road. They keep telling people to not go out unless they really have too...people don't listen though.

The snow finally stopped...thank goodness. 18 inches is a bit much! The neighbor across the street has a snow drift that covers half of his garage door...its huge!

Tomorrow isn't suppose to be very warm so I don't think much of this will melt. I may have to pay Nate to shovel the drive....its so bad....but honestly I don't think he can get that much snow of out it... Its just too much..

    Thanks for the prayers...

I am glad you didn't lose electricity and heat, though sorry to hear other towns have. We had a couple bad storms this year, one in december and got a foot of snow, and one a few weeks ago and got 8 inches. 40 mile winds both storms. And schools and businesses were shut down too. Well, few were open I think. And people were advised to not go anywhere but we had that problem of people not listening, a couple of ladies decided to go to walmart to see if they were open adn got stuck in the drifts. I imagine this gets frustrating for the cops and emergency vehicles to have to go out int he storm too to help thsoe who dont' even need to be out. But yeah, people dont' always think. My brohter had to work in the december one, he does security and drives around watching buildings, he wasn't happy about having to work that night- had a truck to drive through the company and said even that wasn't easy driving through the roads. He thought they should have just closed that place too, who is going to try to rob a place during that when they'd just get stuck? I'll pray for safe travel and that the temps warm up soon for thsoe with no heat or electricity.

In 97, we had an ice storm that had snow with it and we had a drift covering our whole garage door, we had gotten back from my cousin's wedding and a relative of ours had gotten one garage door shoveled out for us. We couldn't think him enough to do all htat. Not fun to shovel all that snow. I have to shovel the snow in front of my garage at my aparment, its definately a workout.

Well after all that...going through a blizzard and all and keeping the lights on "I" managed to blow a fuse that affected half the house... I was doing some extra cleaning...things I don't clean on a regular basis you know...and I went to plug in the vacuum cleaner on the power pad in my room and it popped and a spark flew and then our bedrooms and half the living went dead..ugh. So I went downstairs and checked the fuses...saw the blow out one..changed it but things still didn't come on. I tried several different things...nothing... In order to get to the fuse box I have to get on my knees on top of the washer and try to balance that way...its no fun believe me. Put a call in to my mom's husband...even had my neighbor who was shoveling my drive with Nate helping come in and check it. None of us could figure out what the problem was. Finally decided to replace the new fuse in case it was bad and finally got things working again...

Here going through all this then I knock out my own lights!

Oh and I had to save my gold fish! They are out in the pond and while I put a piece of wood over half of the pond...it never occurred to me what would happen. The pond was full of snow! The poor fish probably could barely move in that. I had gone through snow drifts above my knees to get to them too...good thing too. I used a fish net to scoop out the snow! Poor fish. I was surprised they were still alive actually. Always in the past when we got snow (which was never this much..maybe an inch or two) it was usually cold and the top of the pond was frozen. Boy this was sure a mess though...poor fish..

Anyway we are fine, the worse is over...just need it to melt now. Thanks all.

    God bless
