I saw a lamb when I was young,
As precious as could be.
This child did not know quite yet,
A Lamb had died for me.
Years later, after heartbreak and pain,
I read of a man called John.
“Behold the Lamb of God” he cried,
They were gazing upon God the Son!
Little lambs of one year old,
Four days were brought into the home.
Like pets they became, loved and cherished,
Safely they were kept, don’t let them roam!
But horror of horrors and heartbreak too,
Precious little lambs had to be slain
Showing that the Lamb of God, would die,
For us and in a tomb would be lain.
And then the day came, that I saw,
That the Lamb was slain for me.
Tortured, beaten, oh so cruelly,
Then they nailed Him to a tree.
Jesus, innocent Lamb of God died,
With broken heart, pierced side and a cry.
Yet the story there did not end,
This Lamb rose, sits at Father’s side!
And all through these long years,
Jesus, my Shepherd, He has been too.
Carrying this little lamb close to His heart,
Calms my fears, wiping each tear anew.
Someday soon, all saints will surround
This Lamb who sits on His throne,
Bowing in adoration, singing His praise,
Knowing full victory that the Lamb has won!
Do you know Jesus, our precious Lamb of God?
He holds His arms open to you,
Oh, come know His love, see your name in His wounds,
He heals broken hearts, and makes all things new!
