    Cooking meat and freezing it

I have two lbs of ground beef that I was planning on making for tacos on Sunday and invite some people from church over for lunch. This will have to be made on Saturday because I'm not able to use the stove top myself. But I found out tonight that there is something planned after church on Sunday, which is very rare. So I don't know for sure if I'll be able to do this. If I can't do it this Sunday I'll try doing it next Sunday, but I don't know for sure if that would work out either.

What I'm wondering is can I go ahead and cook this meat then put it in the freezer and thaw it when I'm ready to use it? This meat has already been frozen. I don't know if meat can be frozen, thawed, cooked and refrozen. My mom doesn't know either.

If something is frozen raw, it can be frozen again after being cooked. I've never frozen cooked ground beef, but I imagine it should freeze pretty well.

I've frozen cooked ground beef and it works great! I throw in some minced garlic and chopped onions when I cook it to add some extra flavor. I haven't noticed any flavor or texture changes at all after I freeze it. Just use good freezer bags.

Just don't freeze it for very long. Given the moisture and lots of tiny open spaces in the ground beef, its bound to frost over and get freezer burn fairly quickly.

Beckisted is right. I always cook my ground beef, drain it, put in a freezer bag in 1 pound increments and freeze. It makes meal preparation so much easier. And for our family its never in there long enough to know how long it takes for freezer burn.

This has been my experience as well. d
