Magnitude 6.0 earthquake reported 50 miles northeast of Acapulco, Mexico

I don't believe it...first the swine flu outbreak and then this...
Strong earthquake felt in Mexico City
    Associated Press
    10:12 AM PDT, April 27, 2009
MEXICO CITY -- A strong earthquake struck central Mexico on Monday, swaying tall buildings in the capital and sending office workers into the streets.

The 6.0-magnitude quake was centered near Chilpancingo, about 130 miles southwest of Mexico City or 50 miles from the resort of Acapulco, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Televisa television network quoted Mexico City officials saying there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The title I got off of CNN news website after seeing something on CNN on the TV while they are talking about the swine flu update...so went to their site but its so new they didn't have an article on it so I had to search for it elsewhere.

I think if I lived there I would be going on vacation now..

We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson

Makes you wonder what Mexico City has been up to... is God sending His judgment on that city?

I pray they would recover and repent. This is incredible.

    Quake strikes near Acapulco, Mexico

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- A strong quake measuring 6.0 in magnitude struck southwestern Mexico near the resort city of Acapulco on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

USGS measured the quake's epicenter in the state of Guerrero about 43 miles northeast of Acapulco. The preliminary magnitude is 6.0, but that could change.

Authorities in Acapulco evacuated hotels there, although there were no reports of damage, according to CNN affiliate TV Azteca.

The temblor was felt about 145 miles (230 km) to the north in Mexico City.

CNN Producer Lonzo Cook, who is in the Mexican capital, said people there headed out into the streets after a vibration shook the building for about 30 to 40 seconds. There was no visible damage, he said.

"People in neighboring office buildings -- quite a majority of them wearing masks because of the swine flu outbreak -- were piling out into the streets," Cook said. "There were a few humorous people on the stairways saying, 'This is the apocalypse. First the swine flu, and now this.' "

However, most people were in "high spirits," Cook said.

As I put on the other thread about the swine flu, considering the huge population there less then 1% are affected by the swine flu and this quake did no damage (they get alot of quakes there), I wouldn't be too concerned....yet anyway...

    God bless

Well, Mexico is a seismically active area and they've had some big ones over the years, so nothing really new to report. Connecting the swine flu and the earthquakes seems a bit of a stretch. To my mind, coincidental.
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.

Didn't Jesus say earthquakes and plagues? I still say part and parcel of things to come, yet it's not judgment on Mexico. Jesus said these things will happen. I realize in the tribulatiion it will be judgment but if we're not in it yet then it is not judgement but just another sign of the times. I think it is time for people to just wake up.
As far as blaming it on the geography we can see these things:
    Either,
God caused the earthquake to happen.......
It happened because the land is made to do it............
Or it is an endtime sign that God already knew was going to happen, yet He didn't cause it to happen.

Maybe we can class it as "The groaning of creation awaiting the time Rom. 8:22

How do you explain the fact there have always been earth quakes though? Jesus doesn't say there will be an increase of earthquakes...

There are earthquakes in Revelations and in other books of the Bible related to end times.
I also have to remember Peter's words:
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
But..as we know birth pangs began mild and far between yet increase in frequency and strength as the birth gets closer.
And it will not just be because there are earthquakes but that other signs will be seen as well.

    has to do with earthquakes..

But anyway, I think the earthquakes Jesus and Revelation are talking about are not literal earthquakes. The world can be 'shook' by upset, upheavals...changing in leaders, wars, and so forth.

    The Adam Clarke Commentary

In the prophetic language, great commotions upon earth are often represented under the notion of commotions and changes in the heavens:-

The fall of Babylon is represented by the stars and constellations of heaven withdrawing their light, and the sun and moon being darkened. See Isaiah 13:9,10.

The destruction of Egypt, by the heaven being covered, the sun enveloped with a cloud, and the moon withholding her light. Ezekiel 32:7,8.

The destruction of the Jews by Antiochus Epiphanes is represented by casting down some of the host of heaven, and the stars to the ground. See Daniel 8:10.

And this very destruction of Jerusalem is represented by the Prophet Joel, Joel 2:30,31, by showing wonders in heaven and in earth-darkening the sun, and turning the moon into blood. This general mode of describing these judgments leaves no room to doubt the propriety of its application in the present case.

But I don't totally dismiss physical signs all together either. If a place is hit by a number of things in a short period of time...I think we have to take notice of that..

    God bless

If the context makes it a literal earthquake then it must be one. As far as an increase happening do we really know? They say it seems that way because they can detect them better than ever before but who's to say how much they did increase before they were able to detect them better and in more places?

Not implying that you are one like Peter is referring to but you said that we've always had earthquakes and Peter was replying to those who didn't believe in the coming of the Lord because they were saying things continue on as they always have. So just because things have always continued this way doesn't mean that earthquakes are not a sign and they probably are not a sign in and of themselves but its the frequency, perhaps the strength of the them combined with any other signs that the Bible records.

Even prophetic language is taken literally unless it doesn't make sense that way, then we may be at liberty to spiritualize it.
