    Serious Issue in the Kitchen

Does anyone else, on a regular and continuous basis, even after many years of cooking practice, still always manage to open the wrong end of the box!!! And then not realize this until you try to close it back..

At least the boxes don't all come with under wires to cause even further confusion.

Edit: my first thread in WaW and an important topic I know...LOL

Lol, wow quiet dove you've been here three years and this is your first thread in WaW?

My "kitchen blooper" are those cake mixes in a box, they make those bags paper thin and seal them so tight, that everytime I try to open it by hand it explodes and theres cake mix everywhere. I should probably utilize those kitchen scissors

Actually Mieke, I think I am mistaken, I did start one on hot flashes once. I forgot that. But this one is for funnzeez

Much of our products like cereal, crackers, in this case-macaroni. If you open the right end, it has a flap thingy type process that you can close the box, and hypothetically, it then stay closed.

My problem is Idon't miss the flap thingy until I am trying to close the wrong end ...having opened the wrong end.

Oh!! I forgot about the milk carton. I always do those backwards..

And you mention scissors. How about when you cut the top only to realize you cut below the re-sealable thingy.

I think maybe it is because I am left handed. I know when my husband and I are going somewhere new I always point to the right, with my right hand, as I yell my directions TURN LEFT TURN LEFT.......................YOU MISSED IT!!! Of course then I get that "husband look" as we search for a turn-a-round place. And of course we go through the same process all over as he flies by the only good turn-a-round place for 10 miles...

Surley that can't be my fault., after all, I am the one who asked for directions and wrote them down.

i tend to not use the scissors with the re-sealable ones and then rip the zipper part of the way off... i'm just smooth like that!!! hahahaha

another one i do is when i have a half onion i use it, cut another and have already thrown out the baggie for the original used one and have to get out another to store the new unused onion!!! i hate wasting like that!!!

Oh those...... yeah we have those here too...... but you can easily look at the picture on the box to see what is the right way to open it...... but they still don't work the way they're supposed to........

Many years ago I was making gravy for our Thanksgiving dinner. I strained it through the colander, which would have been fine if I had put it over a pot or a bowl. Instead, without thinking, it went right down the drain of the kitchen sink!

    I'll never forget that!

Thanks for the laugh Jeanne! That's the kind of thing I do! I'm so glad I'm not alone.

One Thanksgiving not long ago, I put the turkey in the oven and happily went off to bed. I knew there was something terribly wrong when there was no cooking turkey smell the next morning. Yeah... I had forgotten to turn the oven on for one of the most important meals of the year. And do you have any idea how hard it is to find a cooked turkey on Thanksgiving Day.. and how expensive!?

My dad and his wife and my inlaws haven't come for Thanksgiving dinner at our house since then.

Oh my goodness you all are so funny!

By the way, Welcome to WAW QuietDove! Where have you been? You need to visit us more often.

One day I wanted to surprise my husband and make him some clam chowder. I went and bought the clams and cooked them. Then I drained the water and took the clams out of the shell and put them in a bowl.
I put the shelled clams back into the pan and then wondered what I was suppose to do next. Where does the water come from? oooopppps. The water I drained was the stock for the chowder! yikes!
    I never made it again.

When I was first married I made a homemade sauce for pasta. It came out brown. My husband ate every bite.

He since has done most of the cooking in my house.

    Worked out well!

When I was first married I wanted to surprise my husband and make a fried chicken dinner. I had never made it before so I called my grandmother for tips. When it came to making the gravy, as most grandmothers, she said 'put a bit of flour in the grease, then add milk'. I had no concept of the term 'put a bit'. The gravy was so bad even the cats wouldn't touch it. My husband used it as mortar on the driveway. It's probably still there to this day.

Lol I do the same thing...doesn't make much difference I have found because the flap thingy never seem to work...

Yea, those flap thingy are not to great, I keep masking tape handy. And those black binder clips for office paper work, they are pretty handy too.
