In Romans 8:15, just what does Abba Father mean? Is it just a way of crying out to the Lord?
It's a very intimate and endearing term that means "father", almost literally, "daddy".
Jesus used the word, Abba, when He was pouring His heart out to God, the Father in Mark 14:36.Romans 8:15 - "For you have not received that spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."
And the Apostle Paul used the word again in Galatians 4:5-6.Mark 14:36 - "And He (Jesus) said, 'Abba, Father, all things are possible unto you. Take this cup from Me, nevertheless, it's not what my will is, but what Your will is."
Galatians 4:5-6 - "....to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons and because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying "Abba, Father."
These are the only passages where this word is found. This was a word that Jesus used for His Father and because we are co-heirs with Christ and we are "adopted" sons and daughters of the Living God through Jesus Christ, then we have the privilege of calling him, Abba, also.
".....it's your nickel"
Abba is what little Israeli children call their father, it is like our daddy. Father is a term for more mature children, adolescent's, and adult Israeli's use, of course, not 'father' but the Jewish word in their language.
