Why is Satan called the angel of light and Jesus said He is the Light?

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (New International Version)

13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

i believe Jesus said He is the light of the world. not that that helps...

Jesus is The Light. The True Light of God that lighteth every man. John 1:9 Satan mimicks God. Satan desires to be like the Most High God. Satan counterfeits everything that he can. Lets face it Satan is not so stupid as to say hey I'm Satan and I want to deceive you. He is more subtile than the serpent. Satan wants to deceive everyone into following him. 2 Cor 11 is a warning not to follow anyone who even though they appear as an angel of light who leads away from what God has delivered through His Son.

There are some who appear very religious but deny the diety of Christ or the efficaciousness of His shed blood or mingle works with grace they teach some truth mingled with just a little error. Like water baptism saves or communion keeps one saved.

Before Satan turned from God, he was the angel of praise. He was there to lead praise and worship to God. I've come to believe that Satan still possesses these qualities. The ability to put things in their best light; to add praise to them; to know what is good to worship. These abilities when used by Satan are going to put sin in its best light; present sin to use as good. Satan has the ability to 'cast a light' on something God abhors, yet we won't see it as sin. Sneaky Devil.......so to speak.

Why is Satan called the angel of light and Jesus said He is the Light?

Satan isn't called "the" angel of light. And "angel of light" isn't one of his names.

In the passage that has already been posted, you see that Paul is very concerned that the Christians in Corinth may be corrupted by false teachers or "masqueraders of apostles of Christ".

1 Corinthians 11:13-14 "(13) There are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. (14) And don't be surprised! Satan, himself, is deceiving people by masquerading as an angel of light."

He says that Satan, Himself, transforms or masquerades or tricks people into believing that he is telling the truth or casting light on the truth.

Angel of light is NOT his name. It's what he pretends to be and deceives the hearts of the whole world.

In essence, Satan often tries to deceive people into believing that sin isn't really bad and, rather, that sin is "good." He often tries to come across as a friend to mankind, an "enlightener" if you will. He pulled the same garbage with Eve in the Garden of Eden. Of course, Satan also tries to convince others that he doesn't even exist. Satan uses different strategies on different people at different times, but it all serves one purpose...to deceive mankind and ultimately draw them away from God and His salvation.

Satan presents a counterfeit to all that is good, including Light.

While that "light" may be attractive for a short time, it won't be attractive for very long.
