Thread: What is knowledge?

    What is knowledge?

I don't know were to ask this question, and not to sure how to ask it.

    Just a thought.

My question is 'What is knowledge'?

What I mean is, what is its substance. Is it spirit?

We are born with the ability to receive, process and store knowledge, but we are not born with knowledge. As we grow, gather and store more and more knowledge, we don't gain any weight because of the amount of knowledge we have, and we do not suffer weight loss if we lose our memory.

Why do I ask this question?
Well if we can say that knowledge is spirit, then can we say that people have a spirit. I am sure most all Christians believe this, but many none believers, don't believe we have a spirit.

That which is spirit is spirit.

Well, when the Bible speaks of "knowledge" there are several different things, according to context, it means.

When it speaks of a man knowing a women that refers to intimate relations which, obviously, one does not have to have a born-again spirit to have,

I am certain there are other types of knowledge that those that are not born-again and, that we have, not directly related to the spirit, but which we recieved the potential for, at birth.

Moving into those that are born-again, there are two types of knowledge that I know of. There is a more general knowledge we receive when we become born-again (such as believing that Jesus is the Christ). And then there is a knowledge of knowing God in an intimate way which is different. These last two can only be revealed by the Spirit of the Living God so, I imagine one could call them "Spirit". It would be the Holy Spirit communing with our now, brought-to-life spirit. Someone who is not born-again does not have that. Their spirit is dead, I believe. That would be why they don't believe they have a spirit.

I think it is the alignment of someone that could be described as there spirit.

    That is a natural thing.
But once that natural thing is revealed in the form of knowledge it becomes the knowledge of good or evil.
But for me that knowledge is not good or evil as we might see it.
But it is the alignment with the spirit of God.

Knowing of Jesus I do find joy in knowing that we align with that spirit out of love and faith.

To more directly answer the topic. What is the substance of knowledge?

I think that the memory in our minds are the vessels to interact with the substance of knowledge. And the substance of knowledge exists in the form of truth and lie. Although I would rather describe it as the alignment or opposition to the spirit of God. I think that the message it implies can be somewhat confusing in discussion.

    Re: What is knowledge?

The "substance" of knowledge in and of itself is simply biochemical information stored in the brain. Has nothing to do with our spirit. A better question might be what is the substance of conscience? Consciousness is required for intelligent life and evolutionists would say it too is just biochemical reactions in our brains and to some extent they are correct.

However, if conscientiousness is defined as being aware of one's own existence at what stage of development does a human become self aware? Are animals also self-aware? Do they know they're a dog, cat or gazelle? If not what evolutionary process could explain only a single primate becoming self-aware? Also, animals can learn behaviors and store information to some extent just like us, but they have no concept of the speed of light. We alone have the ability to reveal knowledge. We alone have the ability to understand and comprehend nature. Be it natural laws, physics, biology, astronomy, quantum mechanics, etc.

If, as evolutionists would have us believe, all life is just random mutation, then it's incredible that unconscious nature has produced consciousness and a being who is self aware and has the ability to comprehend nature. Think about that. If nature itself is NOT self aware, where does self awareness come from? I think that provides a closer argument for the spiritual nature of mankind and the Spirit who created us.

Knowledge is simply stored experience, gathered either first-hand or vicariously.
