I play drums in our worship group at church. Like the OP, music from the late sixties and early seventies was my influence and the first drummers that I liked was Ginger Baker and Ringo Starr, and groups like the Beatles and too many groups to list. I also liked John Bonham of Led Zepplin, drummers today are still trying to copy what he used to do. There are some really great drummers out there now, like Dave Weckl, Randy Van Patten. But all that aside, I now listen to only contemporary Christian, I also like Bluegrass gospel. I don't worry so much about trying to mimmic those drummers these days. I just do my part in the group and the whole end result should be to get the congragation up and praising Him.
Philipians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
