Thread: Jew / Christian?

    Jew / Christian?

    So next question then .

I know this might not seem like a big deal; however, I have seen many people capitalize on the fact the Jesus was a Jew and not a christian and i was hoping you would enlighten me as to the fact of why this is important or even a prosecution of Christianity.

I'm not really sure what they are "capitalizing" on here. Of course, Jesus was a Jew. He was the Messiah, and as such needed to be of the lineage of David...therefore a Jew.

Again... of course, he was not a "christian." By simplest definition, a "christian" is one who follows the teaching of Christ (Jesus). Jesus didn't follow his teaching, he taught and lived out the teaching.

I do feel that we lose much in the church by not understanding our Jewish roots in their fullness...
    Disconnection is not an option!

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. ~ John 15:5-8

Jesus was a wonderful Jew. Of course he was not a "Christ-follower", or Christian...but he was Christ! Now THAT is important!

Yes Jesus was/is a Jew, and He loves the Jewish people but the Bible tells us He came to "His own, and His own received Him not." (John 1:11)

The term Christian was first used of Jewish believers before it was used of Gentiles. Because it was used first in Antioch (Acts 11:26) this is before Paul's missionary trips which open the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 13-28).

    Greetings.

Jesus is both a Jew (John 4:9,22) and the Christ at the same time
(John 4:25-26), just as many people are both Jews and Christians at
the same time (Acts 22:3-21, Romans 11:1).

If a Christian is one who follows Christ, how could Jesus be both the Christ and a Christian? It would mean he was a follower of himself, which makes no sense.
1Jn 4:1 NKJV Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1Th 5:21-22 NKJV Test all things; hold fast what is good. (22) Abstain from every form of evil.

Jesus was most certainly a Christian. A follower of oneself is one who is not a hypocrite. Jesus was a Christian, the first Christian, because he lived it liked he preached it. Every second of every day. And he's the only Christian, or human for that matter, who ever has. His jewishness makes no matter, there have always been Christian jews.

Jesus was not a "Christian". His followers are. He was a perfect man and a perfect Jew.
