I'm looking for a bible study for middle schoolers

I'm going to be teaching a class of six 13-year-old girls: 4 Vietnamese and 2 African (Somalia and the Congo) I believe most of them do not come from Christian homes, one has Islamic parents and they are all very young in their spiritual walk. On top of this, their english language is very basic.

I'm looking for a bible study curriculum that would be suitable for their needs. I was hoping for a workbook type thing, but with simple language or maybe little reading so that they don't get overwhelmed with language.

Anyone have any suggestions? Our local christian store is pretty lame in the teen bible study section. They just have devotions and novel-style books. I've been looking at homeschooling curriculums, but they seems kind of juvenile or confusing...or singing. I don't want singing.

I've taught Bible classes at a Christian school for a couple of years. I am primarily a public school person, but since retirement have taught at the Christian school.

We use Bob Jones' Bible curriculum. It's good at teaching doctrine and has good Bible study. Yes, it's got some singing in there, but you don't have to do it. It also has a really good workbook to go with it.

I'm REALLY cynical about some of the "goofy" Bible material and substandard Bible material that's out there.

I am pleased with the Bob Jones stuff.

    Ah, Bob Jones...
I lied to my dad to keep him from sending me to that college...

I'll look up their bible course stuff.

Oh, I'm not advocating the school at all!! HA!

I like it because it gets into some deep stuff without presenting an "agenda" as do other courses.

And I like it because it doesn't force the KJV on you. In fact, on of the workbook pages explains that the ONLY inerrant Word of God are the original texts.

Shocker ...... coming from a fundamentalist organization.

I'm sooooooo not a fundamentalist and if you didn't know that this was a Bob Jones course, you'd never believe it.

    It's really good.

Does this look/sound like the stuff you're talking about? It's for the bob jones homeschooling stuff. It's not letting me see samples or anything and that's irritating me a lot.

I also found this 44 page workbook online for free that I'm looking over:

I like to be able to glance through the stuff to see what it has them doing. So far I like it except that it makes a point to fight against evolution. Not that I'm an evolutionist, but I like to present both sides and make the students think instead of indoctrinating them myself.

I'm also just terribly sick of the evolution debate and have come to the conclusion that it really doesn't matter.

Check out the Ray Van der Laan study on "Faith Lessons of the Promised land".
Produced by Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family.

The videos are about 15 minutes long and all video is shot in Hi-def on location.
I think there are 23 lessons in all. There is a book that accompanies the DVD.
I think they run about 25.00 through various Christian retailers.

It's adult Sunday school, but certainly appropriate. You might check reviews, I can't remember anything PG-13 in them.

They are excellent though and Ray is impassioned and very easy to listen to.

The on location shooting, certainly gives them a frame of reference.

Look here at the 6th grade material from the BJU press website. It will let you click on the table of contents and a sample chapter from the workbook.

I didn't use anything except the teacher's manual and the student workbooks. I didn't use all of those extra materials. Don't get the posters. They are small and the children have the same pictures in their workbooks. I think you can look at the tests also on this site. You'll just have to look around.

I don't remember an evolution debate in this curriculum. I disagree with you. I think it's very important to discern the truth about evolution, but I do agree with you that the debate can be so loud that it drowns our the scriptures.

I spent years researching it and arguing it with everyone that would give me the chance and finally realized after a 4 page essay and many many debates that it doesn't go anywhere. The most important thing I learned from them is that creation scientists and evolutionist scientist do not share information with each other and because of that science has fallen into a bit of a hole of misinformation and lost information.

    But I digress....
