Thread: Reading the bible

  1. #16
I read from the NASB and its a study Bible which means the lower half is footnotes that often explain certain references.

I think this is hugely beneficial in capturing what is being said.

I also recommend reading slowly as your purpose is not to gather information but to see and experience God.

I have heard that you should start with the book of John, maybe go to Romans after that. There is a lot there that is valuable to the new Christian. Once you understand the New Testament teachings, I believe the Old Testament can mean so much more to you. As a young Christian I didn't really understand some of the Old Testament. Now, I am just in awe with it.

The main thing is to stay faithful to read the word, praying for understanding. It is an important part of growing in the Lord. Read Ephesians 6:11-17, describing the Armour of God. The word is an important part of that armour. Every Christian should be properly equipped for their walk with the Lord.

O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. Ps 51:15

I would start with the NT -- the gospels, Acts, and epistles.

As T-Rod says, a good study Bible is a big help. I use the NIV study Bible.
