    Three Thousand Sundays

    Peeling paint on cracking plaster
    Old rough lumber Rusty nails
A leaning steeple on a tin roof
    God's Holy Spirit still prevails

Prayers of thanks Prayers for forgiveness
    Tears of sorrow Joyfull tears
For my last three thousand sundays
    For over fifty seven years

A dozer's come to take my church house
The younger elders took a vote
To build a brand new worship center
And just like that that's all she wrote

Here was my first time at the alter
There sat my momma with the choir
There stood my daddy at the pulpit
Here Jesus saved us from the fires

But I will still be spared this heartache
If my sweet Jesus comes today
Before the roll is called up yonder
    Maybe I'll just fly away

That was a sweet poem, and it carries so much nostalgia and memory with it. Thanks for sharing!

Love is not a place to come and go as we please
It's a house we enter in, then commit to never leave
So lock the door behind you, and throw away the key
We'll work it out together, let it bring us to our knees.....

Thank you both, I'm glad you like it.
I always wanted to write lyrics and never did until God gave me something to write about.

    Three Thousand Sundays

    Dear Embodied,

Wonderful piece of poetry with a message heartfelt.

Makes you want to rejoice and to cry at the same time. Memories are always there no matter what and give us hope when things around us are changing.
