Thread: Question?

  1. #1

    Question?

I'm looking to make a website, where it's member based. Some thing that members could post some text and pictures on the main page and that comes with a forum. What would be best for that?

    Thanks for the help!

... I am a webmaster for a couple of sites but have never dealt with a forum. The folks here appear to be running a Linux based system called Apache and that is a full featured system. I'm not certain but I believe the host is Webnet77.com. I would check with these folks first if I were you.

Are you refering to an image board?

I guess like a forum with webpages, where photos can be posted, along with text..

The forums here use vBulletin. I've always liked phpBB myself. Those are two php forum systems that can allow members to post pictures and the like. In order to run them, you'll need a web host that supports php.

I would start looking into web hosting first. Most good hosts will include a bunch of different software packages that will suit your needs. Just takes time to play around. I recommend dreamhost.com as it's the host I've been using for the past several years without any hiccups. Their support is TOP NOTCH if you have any questions! A friend of mine recommends bluehost.com as they are a Christian based host. I have no idea about their services though.

    Good luck!

You could use a commercial script like we do here -- vBulletin -- or you could use a free one like SMF (or even PHPBB). SMF these days is getting to rival vBulletin in features and function and I've often wondered if we should not consider moving to it.

You have hosted with us before and yes, we do offer all this as part of the package.
