    umm...maybe i'm overreacting but...

I was talking to an atheist friend, and he was talking about how he didn't believe in God, while we were talking I had mentioned that I've heard someone say "the miracles that Jesus did, any magician could have performed" ( this is an atheist view , i guess) I was telling him that i've heard alot of this stuff before......but by saying that have I commited the unforgivible sin? I know in my heart Jesus had the power of The Holy Spirit to work miracles, but i spoke that with my mouth,...am i overreacting?
I'm worried about this, i wish i never said something like that!

I'm a little confused. The highlighted stuff...Is this what you said?

Here's my limited understanding of blasphemy..

    1. Not a one time occurrence
    2. Rejection of the cross but you can believe later.
    3. A constant denial of the cross without later believing (unforgivable sin).
    4. When calling the work of the Holy Spirit Satan then you are on dangerous ground
    5. People who have truly blasphemed will no longer be convicted by the Holy Spirit--and some will debate this. So, if you have conviction from the Holy Spirit.....

We all have our "fleshly" moments where we speak before the Holy Spirit can get an word out.
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.
    Psalm 62:5

I don't know why that is highlighted. I said what is in the quotes.
After I said it, i didn't think anything much about it, but after a couple of days it started to really bother me the more I thought about it, I started to think about when Jesus said that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit would not be forgiven. I'm afraid that I might have done that. I didn't mean what I said about a magician could have done the miracles, I was just talking about what atheists say, that's all but i'm still worried.

Well, first of all the Lord knows what you meant and how you meant it to come out. He knows your heart. He knows your intentions. Does this help?

Also, you said you mentioned you heard someone say... that tells me it's not from your heart, but from someone's mouth.

Personally, I believe the Holy Ghost will not convict you of sin if you have blasphemed. Why bother? If you've done the unpardonable, the Holy Ghost has no reason to deal with your heart.

I have struggled with a fear that I had blasphemed the Holy Ghost. Nowadays, I have been baptized with the Holy Ghost and know that Satan is a liar.

    Hi there.

You were not saying those things as opinions of your own. What you were doing was reporting speech by a third person. I'm sure that God is enough of a grammarian that He knows what you meant! Don't worry, you didn't blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Thank you everyone, This is a sin that I'm really afraid of commiting.
I don't even want to step on ground that is close to commiting this sin.
He is a friend at work that I care about and I want to have other talks with him, I want him to re-consider his faith. I'm so afraid of what will happen if I sit back and not witness.
I feel responsible for him,....I have a hard time trying to talk to atheists.
I can never find the right things to say......I've got work to do.......even though he thinks I believe in fairy tales.

The very day my son was saved, he and my husband were sitting laughing at me for "believing in fairy tales." My son quoted some famous atheist, and said, "I suppose you can't enjoy a garden unless there's a fairy at the bottom of it." (My son is a very precocious child.)

    Within hours, God "got" him.

My son was saved late October. As you can imagine, my husband was bewildered by his sudden change of heart. He accused him of "going over to the 'dark side'" for being Christian.

By early January this life long atheist, who actually hated Christianity with a passion, had his own encounter with Jesus, and was witnessing to everyone he met.

All you have to do is be obedient. Don't worry if you "get it right", or feel that it's your responsibility to get the message home.

You just faithfully bear witness, in whatever capacity you can, and don't worry. It's God who enlightens each and everyone of us. It's not your fault if someone won't listen. It's not even your responsibility. Just tell the truth, and let God do everything else.

You know, it was such a relief to me when I realised that. It's not our burden to convert anyone. We simply tell the truth.

God is the one who makes a seed grow.

And He sees what you're doing here, and will bless you surely.

Of course you didn't blaspheme the Holy Spirit! How can one who has been pardoned (you) commit the unpardonable sin?

You do know there are counterfeit signs and wonders, and by counterfeit I mean by the power of Satan, not the Holy Spirit. So in a way, yes, they could be done by a magician or sorcerer.

I'm not so sure of that. When I was a witch, I had some level of control over the weather. (I drew down hailstones, thunder and lightning on someone I was very angry with, for example, on an otherwise clear day.) But I could never have walked on water. Jesus had true mastery and dominion over creation. Witches and magicians don't have that.

Oh, sure I agree with that...He certainly performed miracles only God can do. What I'm saying is that there are forces out there that are truly supernatural, in bad way. But who am I to give advice...you are certainly the authority on this issue

    I wouldn't say that!!!

The devil can certainly look convincing though, especially to the unsaved.

Generally if we have done something wrong, God convicts us right away. You "feeling guilty" after a few days is more than likely a product of your flesh rather than God convicting you.

I don't think you've done anything wrong. We've all heard crazy claims about Jesus and simply agreeing that we've heard them doesn't mean we believe them to be true.

And if we do doubt, we have a Savior who intercedes for us and will forgive our unbelief. Just tell the Lord you are sorry and ask Him to forgive your unbelief if you think you have sinned. But I honestly doubt you are in the wrong here.
