    Tattoo stories?

Everyone I know that has a tattoo seems to have a story behind it.

The tattoo seems to tell a part of the story at least.

I have seen tattoos of wive's names, children's names, symbols for periods of time in people's lives...all kinds of stuff.

as well as the barb wire bands on arms...stuff like that.

What is your story behind your tattoo?

I have two tattoo's. The one on my right shoulder that is my avatar was my first tattoo.

I had been praying to God about some stuff that was heavy on my spirit at that time of my life. This was about 5 years ago and the Lord was just beginning to place in me a desire to speak to people about the Lord. Not just anyone, but specific people. Those that other Christian's had pushed away from the Lord cause of the bad experiences people have with Christians who are bound with religion and legalism.

These people were looked down upon by these Christians due to their "outward" appearance that didn't measure up to what these Christians had determined what a Christian should "look" like.

The Lord began to press this upon my heart in a way that led me to seek a tattoo. One that glorified the Lord and allowed me to witness to those who have been put off by other Christians.

Finally I explained to my family what the Lord was telling me but I wasn't being led to any specific design. My daughter, who is an artist, got excited cause the Lord had been placing upon her an image to draw but she hadn't drawn it yet cause there wasn't a need to draw it. She figured she'd doodle it out just to have as a draft but felt she needed to "draw" it out.

When she heard what the Lord was telling me, she ran off and came back a little later with the drawing. I had the drawing tattooed a few weeks later as this was exactly what I wanted... I just didn't know it, till I saw it. I had told her a concept I was thinking about and this also excited her cause the image in her head was the same.

I have a half-sleeve on my left side... will wait for awhile before posting that story. That tattoo took 6 months to complete.

No tattoos, but have been "planning" several (meaning, I'm sure I want them, but am unsure of a final design and never seem to have the money line up).

The first, is a skull with a maroon beret and the USASOC insignia in the flash on one of my shoulders. I'm not an artist, so the hold up is finding the right design.

The second is a scroll with the names of all the places I fought in some kind of calligraphy. In some cases, the names are easy; in others, not so much. I briefly considered having the names in Arabic, but didn't want to have to explain it over and over again.
The minstrel boy to the war is gone,
    In the ranks of death ye will find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
    And his wild harp slung behind him;
"Land of Song!" said the warrior bard,
"Tho' all the world betray thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!

    i have:

angels battling-signifying the fall of Satan, and the beginning of evil. pertains to our lives, as it seems to be the only thing holding us back from God.

girl face-represents my hardest battle in life-lust. It's there to say 'don't put this ahead of God.'

golgotha-where Jesus was killed. So i may remember he died for me (which is the best news ever!)

gates of heaven and hell-there's only two places to go...

all these make up 1 large tattoo that covers from my left hand across my chestto my right elbow.

(on a side note i can admit my motives were not as they should be getting these tattoos and the money i spent was indeed purley selfish. however, i don't regret the tattoo's, just the guy who did them.)

I don't have any tattoos, so far.

I've off and on considered getting a tattoo of a cross.

I've seen countless different types of tattoos.

I've seen tattoos of religious expression. However, some apparently religious tattoos, so I've heard, have meanings different than what they appear to be. For example, many Russian tattoos feature religious imagery, such as churches, praying hands, etc., but mean things totally different than what they appear to mean. The wearers reportedly aren't necessarily religiously inclined.

I've also seen military personnel with tattoos associated with their branch of the military.

I've seen many other types of tattoos.

I have three tattoos, 1 piercing, and one brand. I got all of them prior to salvation and I don't think I can tell the stories here.

I have one tattoo of an eagle on my right arm and ,I consider it one of the dumbest things I ever did do,a permanent mark of temporary insanity,to each his own but it is a reminder of the past I don't need.Mom told me so and once again she was right.I have had it for about 25 years. I guess when I was younger I didn't realize how long permanent was.

Here's the story of my non-tattoo.

My father got inked when he was 17 and in the army. On one arm a soaring eagle, on the other a panther rending the arm flesh. I thought they were the coolest things ever. My father thought they were something to be ashamed of.

In university I decided I wanted my residence logo as a tattoo. My father, who was up visiting me at the time said "hey cool! I'll go with you". So we went around to the different tattoo shops around town just browsing around and talking. He said he had one condition, so I listened.

"Pick one that you like, and then wait one year" he said "and if its still as good an idea, you go ahead and get that tattoo".

And here I sit, untouched by the needle.

    That's good advice, too.

    Wise Dad.

I've always wanted a tattoo...a real small one...now don't laugh...of my teddy bear that I used to sleep with pink roses around his feet.

However, my husband is totally against them and he has asked me not to get a tattoo--that's why I don't and it's okay with me.

This is what I want, with modifications.

The nonsense in the back, of course, would go. The beret color would be changed to maroon, and the flash would change to this:

    and this insignia:

I need to sit down and actual work on the other one, as it is, I haven't done anything but talk about it.

...and just what is wrong with a tan beret???

(Of course, back in my day, they were black. I thought I was going to hurl when I heard they were giving them out to everybody.)

Well, I earned my Tab, but I never went to Regiment, so no tan beret for me. I like the tan over the black, too, though I don't know why the whole Army needed them.
