Matthew 26 36 - 46

What does the text say? - Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane with His disciples and told most of them to sit down. He took Peter, James and John a bit further with Him, Jesus told them to watch and pray as He was deeply distressed, then He went a bit further on and prayed that, if possible, God would take the 'cup of suffering' but if there was no other way He would do God's Will. Then He returned to Peter, James and John who were sleeping, and asked if they couldn't even stay awake with Him for one hour, also that they must be alert and pray that they didn't fall into temptation, for even though they may be willing to obey Him their flesh was weak. Jesus then went and prayed for the same thing twice more, and each time the disciples slept. Jesus woke them and said the one who was betraying Him had come.

Application - Do I watch and pray with Jesus about His concerns? or do I only pray about what concerns me? Am I sleeping - physically, mentally or spiritually? Is the lack of time I spend awake with Jesus, praying for what concerns Him, distressing Him? Do I let Jesus down too often? am I willing to go through suffering if it is God's Will for me? How do I react when I am betrayed? Do I let that betrayal ruin my life by making me bitter? or do I accept it as though it’s from the Lord to refine me?
