God views things differently than this promiscuous society.
But what about if he doesn't take her as his wife?
16 “If a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall surely pay the bride-price for her to be his wife. 17 If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the bride-price of virgins.

    Technically, they're not married...

They are not married until they agree to be married. If they do not agree to be married, then it is fornication.

However, we are still be be cooperative with the government under which we live. Some states claim that "shaking up" is illegal, so to comply; you must be married. Other states claim that if a man and woman decide to live together, they ARE married - "common law." We first comply with God's law - then man's. God can see everything that we do, and in our hearts; we know what we are doing.

Rather than find loopholes to God's law, can we accept that pre-marital sex is sin? Can we agree with sex outside of marriage is also sin?

Since the old testament examples where there was not necessarily a government to establish those legalities are not good examples for us to live by concerning marriage, we should follow the guidance we have in living now.

I was married in a courthouse, but after I accepted my savior, my wife and I prayed for God to see us as one body. We did it to satisfy my desires, not God's. God already knew.

    God.

How many times must God tell us not to be fornicators? What is a fornicator? It is a person who has sex outside of marriage. If two people are not married and have sex, they are fornicators> If they are married to someone else and have sex, they are adulterers.

If two people are "married" because they had sex there would be no such thing as fornication. There would be only adultery.

Excellent! To answer the OP's question, yes you are married.

Boo, you nailed the problem, this society does not understand that sex is only good and right and wholesome within marriage. Any extra marital sex, be it between to singles, a single and a married person or two married persons (but not to each other) is sin and is not to be done. It ain't really complicated.

Re: Marriage, in the eyes of God

This certainly looks like the exact type of topic I was looking for.

As far as I know it, my parents are committed to each other and are determined to live, love, and be faithful to each other until death do them part. It also appears that their relationship has been blessed by priests on at least several occasions, and several people in my family, including my aunt, do in fact see my parents as husband and wife in their eyes.

Then one day recently, I came across Romans Chapter 13 and realized that the marriage license and the judge are missing, and I thought; "Oh, no! This is terrible! My parents are headed for the fire because they don't have a marriage license!" My mind also even began screaming; "God, please forgive my parents' sins and take them to Heaven when they pass on!" The reason they don't get an official license is because if they did, I would lose my disability benefits.

Also, I know someone who had epilepsy and died of a seizure in 2006. She had that exact same type of relationship with a man, and may have been a Christian. What scares me is that she never came to me in my dreams, and my instinct tells me that it may be possible that the only deceased people who visit Earthly friends in dreams are those that went to Heaven.

As for me, I have not begun dating anyone yet, but I have decided that, after telling her my situation with me receiving disability, if whoever I end up with wants to marry me the American traditional way, she can do so.

Re: Marriage, in the eyes of God

    From a man's perspective:
What I understand from scripture/OT is a woman is wardened/guarded by first her blood-father, then her blood-brother or eldest of brothers until she is given as a wife or trusted to a man not related to her by blood, given to the man as a wife and he her husband.
She is given to him/the man not related to her by blood, given or released to the man as a wife by her blood-father or blood-brother or eldest of brothers or other legal guardian/warden of her.

Then the man not related to her by blood who is given guardian-ship/husband-ship of her is her "husband" and she is his "wife".
But it sure looks like the Gospels-n-Epistles/NT do add a stipulation to that, so I should add that same stipulation:
That only if it is that woman's will too to be given as a wife to the said man, but I am not positive our scripture/OT adds that final stipulation that I see added by the NT/Gospels n Epistles.

Father bless those who look to you, but have mercy on all of us to glorify your name.
