Latest News on my Little Blind Gr-granddaughter...

This is an update on my little blind great-grandbaby. First, thanks to all who continue to pray for her. This is kinda long. If you don't want to read it all, I understand.

The surgeon called Josh and Christy today and told them the cornea graft (transplant) is officially scheduled for NOV. 10 at 10:45 in the morning. This is only for one eye, her left eye. They can't do anything for her right eye, but if she can see out of ONE, we definitely will never complain!

For those who don't know, little Malayia was born very prematurely and has had to go through several surgeries, one very bad...to remove a cyst from her little brain. They had to cut her little head from above her ears all the way across the back of her head, like when you carve the top off a pumpkin. The cyst made her deaf and blind. But since they removed the cyst, her hearing has returned and is excellent! (Thank you again, Lord Jesus!) We did not want her to be deaf AND blind all her life, and the Lord has answered our prayer!

But the cyst has caused permanent damage to her optic nerve and they just recently did more testing that showed them LIGHT is being sent to her little brain, and that the "wiring" to her brain is good in her left eye. They really believe she can see with her left eye after this cornea transplant! We have all prayed so, SO hard for her to see.

But, for starters, she will have to be brought to Children's Hospital every day for a week or two, to make sure she is not going into rejection. (It is a transplant!) Then, for several weeks they will have to keep her partly sedated. The surgeon said, "You know how it hurts to get a small eye lash in your eye. Her eye will be that way for 3 or 4 weeks."

He said little babies, when they go through this, don't want to eat or sleep or anything. They are too uncomfortable. So they partly sedate them. And, there is no guarantee that this will "take" the first time. He told of one baby whose little body rejected the new cornea until the 10th time. He said, "We will do it again, until her body does not reject it, no matter how many it takes." He told of grown-ups who have had this done, and they say the pain is horrible. Even grown-up can't hardly stand it, after the surgery.

But our family's little baby is now amost 9 months old, and can't tell us how bad she is hurting. (She will have to have anti-rejection eye drops for the rest of her life. They cannot, cannot let her eye get dried out, at all, ever.)

Friends, I don't know if we could stand for her to go through this 10 times. Please, please pray that it takes the first time!

The surgery on Nov. 10 is on my little daughter-in-law's birthday. She and my son are the grandparents of little Malayia. She told me, "If Malayia has that surgery on that day and can see, that will be the only birthday gift I ever want for my whole life."

One more thing. When it does take, and she can see, the Dr. warned them that she may have to be hospitalized for a few days. He said it freaks little babies out when they've never seen anything, and suddenly they wake up and see.

Just please pray for my little blind great-granddaughter. And for all of us. I am just so very thankful that she will be able to see. (They can't guarantee she will have 20/20, but said whatever range her sight is in, it will give us something to work with and improve on.)

Just help us pray this will TAKE the first time, so she won't have to go through it over, and over. Thanks, and God bless!
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

Very, very pleased to know Malaya will be receiving a cornea transplant, and will watch in prayer for her progress and recovery, knowing she is undoubtedly due for some difficulty and suffering.

Praying that the transplant goes well and takes the first time around, and that Malaya will soon be able to see. (and that seeing will be a joyul experience for her). Asking also, that the LORD will draw her very close to Himself during this ordeal and that she will be able to take in nourishment and keep up her strength.

What a testimony Malaya has been and will surely continue to be.

Praying for Josh and Christy, for you and the entire family.

Thank you, Diggin' for this update and the great news that you have given us. Yes, I remember this little one in my prayers often - I thank God for her and ask that He hold her close to Him.

I have prayed for her doctors and will continue to do so, as well as for all of you, especially for her parents.

My birthday is November 13th and while I always ask God for snow on my birthday, I'll ask Him this year to hold off on the snow and give me an early present with this beautiful child's successful surgery. I will pray that she is delighted with sight and not fearful at all.

He has trusted your family with the care of little Malaya because you trust Him. What a gift this child is. Thank you for allowing me to share in her journey.

This is my first time hearing about little Malayia since I'm a recent newbie here. I will be praying as well as my daughter whose birthday is Nov. 10, and mine is the 15th! Thank you for this privilege to bring Malayia and your family before the Father's throne in prayer.

your sweet little Malayia's been in my thoughts and prayers often and I'll continue to lift her and her parents, and surgeons, up! The chance to have a transplant is wonderful. Thank you so much for the update and for sharing your lives there with us here.

Pics of my little blind gr-granddaughter...

To all who are praying for little Malayia, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Here are some pictures of her, so you can put a little face with your prayers for her cornea transplant on Nov. 10th. Isn't she precious? (She is up to a little over eleven pounds now.)

The first picture, I am holding her and she was listening to the musical, light-up toy I gave her. (She has blond hair, but its hard to see if you are not next to her.)

The next picture, my husband took her and she was squirming around and kicking. She likes to use her feet. He had just handed her back to me...

The last picture is me holding her.

If you look close in the last picture, you can see the nasty scar from the top of her little ear, across the back of her head...That's where they had to cut her little head to remove the cyst. Some day she'll have enough hair to cover up that scar.

Please pray that this cornea graft will 'take' the first time.

I'll be sure to pray for her on this! Seems like to me it would be better to knock her out complete and keep her like that for as long as possibly so she doesn't have to go through some awful pain... Poor little baby... I sure wish she didn't have to go through it at all...but I know she needs too.

Prayers for her and her whole family!

    God bless

We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; We drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; We drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson

I wasn't finished sending you a rep comment, Julie...but coughed, reached for a drink of water, and my hand hit the mouse and submitted it...too soon.

Thank you so much for the prayers!

SFASH, we really do thank you for the prayers... I am just old enough and maybe silly enough, that I believe God will surely have mercy on her and grant her sight...on the first go!

Vhayes, I am praying that God will grant little Malayia's SIGHT and YOUR SNOW for your Birthday! God bless you, V!

Major, I am in awe that you are able to pray for any child. You've gone through so much. May our little Malayia be as beautiful as your daughter! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Mieke, I knew you and Chal would be praying! I look forward to handing Josh and Christy the hand-made card from you. I know it will mean SO much to them!

Brian, I sincerely thank you for praying for our family's little baby. Our whole family thanks you, and we all mean it.

bc3n1, somehow I really believe that all of you who have birthdays on or near her surgery date, well, you could just be the ones that God grants Malayia her sight--for your birthdays! Asking for the gift of seeing for her would be asking for a wonderful birthday gift! Thank you, sincerely! (And a big welcome to the board!)

Redneck Charger, you are so, so faithful to this Prayer forum. May God richly bless you. And, may he bless you double for praying for our family's little baby!

CoffeeCat, thank you so very much for thinking and praying for our baby often! I can't begin to tell you how much it means to our whole family.

Please pray that her body won't reject the new cornea. We don't want to put her through this more than one time.

Dear Lord, all who are praying for little Malayia, Lord grant them special, special blessings from you! (And Lord, we are still in amazement that the surgeons can do this! You know, Lord, that all the teams of doctors before (all!) were saying that she would never see at all, and we remember when she could not hear either. We are still trying to learn how to thank you, Lord, because you have restored her HEARING!)

    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

Thank God for technological advances. I'm so excited that she is going to have an opportunity to see from one eye!

I pray that it work perfectly and 100% the FIRST time. And that she suffers very, very little.

Thank the LORD that she won't have to live in deaf and blind world that Helen Keller did - but may she have the grace, diginity, learnedness, and be the moral example that Helen Keller was.

    My prayers for Nov. 10.

Faith, Hope and Love! What an Awesome God we serve!

Aaaaw, she is such a testimony already to the goodness, love, mercy and compassion of our Lord! I pray that she will always be HIS witness and glorify HIS precious name. Our Father loves us sooooo much...let us all keep our focus on HIM...of course, I agree with all the other prayers that I and most members of this board have sent up to the Father in Heaven on this baby's behalf, and your's...And, HE has heard them all! Thank You, Father God!

God bless all of you as the struggles continue...just know, Father God is with you every step of the way..
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish, but have eternal life.
