Is looking at other women lesbianism...

....or can it lead to having lesbian tendencies?

I don't know what it is with me, but I enjoy looking at beautiful women. It's never in a sexual way, and no thoughts of that nature ever really cross my mind, but it's more like an aesthetic appreciation.

In fact, if I see an attractive man and an attractive woman together, I will look more at the woman than the man. I just think that women are more beautiful, but I'm wondering if there is something wrong with me.

I am definitely not a lesbian, and definitely like men, but the fact that I tend to look at women, I don't know.

    What are your thoughts?

I haven't a lesbian bone in my body but I can appreciate a beautiful woman. I think women are more beautiful, and I appreciate them more so than men. Women's magazines are full of pictures of beautiful women. And it's the women who buy them, not the men.

Any feelings I do fight are not so much sexual as they are a little on the envious side or maybe in some comparative vein. Just a tad. Until I remember that I'm really not interested in trading with anybody and that I'm quite satisfied with myself and the life God has given me.

I enjoy looking at children, especially when they laugh or when they are reeeallly thinking. That doesn't make me a pedophile, does it?

I also enjoy looking at women AND men. It's looking in appreciation of the over all, not looking to use for gratification.

Maybe you look at women more BECAUSE you don't want to lust after men? Just a thought?

Thanks for the replies, both of you.

Vhayes...I don't think that looking at women helps me lust after men any less. It's rare that I even lust after a man, and even then, the few that I'm attracted to I will never meet.

I don't know, I guess it's because there is a softness and the beauty is more multi-faceted than guys. Women can do interesting things with make-up and they have more interesting proportions than guys do. I don't know, I guess it's just odd because I have a tendency to stare, like I'm studying her or something, and I try not to, because it can become an awkward situation.

Is this getting too detailed? I guess I'm just trying to spell out what it is that I find so appealing.

Anyhow, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one.

Dani -- I know what you're saying about envy. It's easy to fall into that trap of getting jealous. I'm a pretty insecure person.

If I see a pretty woman I admire her beauty but don't have any unhealthy or unnatural feelings toward her. I don't see anything wrong with that.

We are "programmed" by our Heavenly Father to enjoy and appreciate beauty. As long as one is having no sexual feelings or thoughts toward the beautiful ladies, no big deal. If one is having such feelings though, that's when maybe a hormone check or other help would be in order.

I don't think women are a bit more beautiful than men. It seems to me though, that since men are more visual than women on the average. we women make ourselves more flashy and eye catching in the way we dress, wear make up, jewelry, etc. Women will go out of their way, for example, to style their hair in such a way that it really flatter their faces and make them look more attractive. Men usually just wear standard, short hair and though they care about their appearance, generally, they just don't have as many options in this culture to do as much to enhance it.

Acts 21 Now they have been informed about you that you continually teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn back from and forsake Moses...Therefore do just what we tell you. With us are 4 men who have taken a vow upon themselves. Take these men and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses [for a temple offering],...Thus everybody will know that there is no truth in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself walk in observance of the Law of Moses.

I think we all notice beauty, whether it be male or female. Because of fears of being thought to be lesbian we just don't talk about it. I remember as a 12 or 13 year old I remember I was one of the tallest girls in my class. Not only was I tall, but I had one of the straightest figures of all too! There was a girl in my class who was short and curvy. I confided in a friend that I wish I looked sexy like her. Oh the laughs I got, and it didn't stay between the two of us. I wasn't saying I was attracted to her. I was saying, in an immature way, I wanted a womanly body, not a girlish body. I never again talked such talk. Now, as an adult, sometimes I will agree with someone or sometimes say certain woman are beautiful. I'm careful how I say it though and who I say it to. I am definitely not a lesbian and I definitely do not have lesbian thoughts. I do however notice that some people are just absolutely beautiful. Male or female. Of course I'm careful what I say about attractive men because I don't want to lust, appear to lust or otherwise start trouble - But that would be a different thread. I don't want to hijack this one.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. I remember when I was in my early 20's - had forgotten all about it and this string triggered the memory - I used to think a certain model was absolutely beautiful. I really liked to see pictures of her, and the idea of anything of a lesbian nature was totally alien. Girls used to put pictures of movie stars and so on up in the rooms. There is something in us that wants to emulate others and that is just part of it.

No, I don't beleive it does. Men and women where made in God's image, so why not appreciate the beauty he has given us?

According to secular psychology studies we are "wired" (I hate that term but for lack of a better one) to want to look at attractive people. Even babies, will look at men and women who are attractive longer than unattractive people.

Then why do some people say that it's sinful to want an attractive mate?

It depends on what reaction is causes in us. As women, we are very critical of other women. We are easily critical, we are easily jealous and we compare ourselves.

If looking at another women causes us to lust, then yes. The same is true if it causes us to become jealous, envious or critical. We sin just the same.

When I see a beautiful woman I sometimes cannot help but stare. I do not desire her I just admire her beauty. It makes me appreciate the beauty God brings into the world. I do struggle sometimes with envy but am happy that for the most part I can just admire her as God's beautiful creation.

I am a portrait artist, and I am the same way. It is an appreciation of the literal beauty of form that God has instilled in the female that I am struck with, pretty well ever since I could pick up a pencil!

There is nothing sensual in it, but I do think that more women than men appreciate beautiful line and colour.
