I don't condsider a video projection to illustrate a sermon or display a written Bible verse (or outline) to be an image. If one took your expansive definition of image to its logical conclusion we would have to keep our eyes shut during the entire service.

I think there is a confusion of icon vs. image here.

Specially when all a projector is... is a training or teaching, "aid". It's put away or at least turned off if permanently fixed, once the service is done and in most cases with the people in the congregation... they forget about the visuals used the moment they walk out the door. Only those taking notes cared enough to listen and were proactive in listening.

Indeed, if a project image of a Bible verse on the wall is an image, and inconography, why isn't it an image while on the page of our Bible?

We wouldn't have to close our eyes because I am not saying images are wrong per se.

Not an image or images what we see from a projector?

Ok what definition do you want to use showing the difference between an image and an icon?

I wasn't aware that there was a difference.

Yeah, what is the difference? Our pastors are great teachers and preachers. when they preach they are teaching and when they teach they are preaching.

Mind you, I do know that there are those who teach well, but cannot preach very well at all!

I believe that the gifting for one overlaps to the ability of the other.

Jesus is the Master teacher, he told parables "a type of story telling" given visuals. To teach life lessons.

To preach is to proclaim or make known by sermon (the gospel, good tidings).

A good preacher can't preach without teaching the Word also. It is done well by those so gifted.

At a Church I visited today the pastor while preaching his sermon kept using pictures and writings that were shown on a big screen behind him. This was somewhat distracting because he would often turn around to read and make comments on the visuals.
What is up with this? Is this a new trend for preachers? If so, why?
Using visual aids (slides, overheads, films, videos) is an excellent way to make any teaching even clearer. There is no Scriptural prohibition regarding using such aids. I would prefer all preachers do this as many of them put me to sleep with their speaking methods.

    I don't recall is preaching a gift?

those who have the teaching gift should be able to preach also. But we are all called to preach the gospel and God supplies the ability as we step out in boldness and faith. some are better gifted or naturally talented for such a thing, but that doesn't negate the fact that all of us need to do it.

Mostly we are discussing preaching as in the pulpit. That requires a gifting of some sort, don't you think? The gift of teaching, or pastor, etc, all cover it.
