Pornography is an idol, so I guess it could be the same thing.

Oh wait. Mary Magdalene isn't actually mentioned anywhere in the chapter. Only a "woman" is mentioned. The woman is not named. Hence, there's no reason to identify her as Mary Magdalene, and hence, Mary Magdalene isn't identified in Scripture as an adulteress.

Mark I stand corrected you are right, thank you correcting me, no where is it said, therefore it cannot be found, and believe you/me I searched.

You are the man and I was wrong.

Pardon? She was a demoniac. That is ALL the information we have.

I wonder what the god of pornography was called back then?

No, the images were of known pagan gods. However, you are correct. Pornography is an idol in many lives and that scripture is a powerful one to use when ministering to those who have succumbed to it.

Please, could you not speak facetiously at me? ("You are the man"... seriously?) Put-downs and snide remarks are incredibly unneeded.

Right. But, in order for us to discuss the topic accurately, false information must be weeded out. Hence, Mary Magdalene has no part in this discussion of "pornography in the Bible", because nowhere in the Bible is she associated with any form of sexual sin (not pornography, not prostitution, not adultery, not fornication, et cetera).

    Hi Markedward -

I think The Mighty Sword meant it as a compliment. I don't think he meant it in a derogatory way at all. He was telling you he checked and you were absolutely right, he stood/stands corrected. And he appreciates the fact that you corrected him.

At least that's the way i read it and I have been interacting in other threads with MS and have come to recognize his writing style a bit.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure MS or someone will tell me. Hope this helps -
    V

Perhaps I should clarify. I'm not saying that I think the images spoken of in that passage of scripture were pornographic in nature. What I'm saying is that it really doesn't matter what the images were of. What matters is that they were an idol. Pornography, as well as any other sin that we refuse to repent of, is an idol. That's the point I was making.

As far as I know, Ezekiel 8 is the Lord revealing to Ezekiel that even when the people got into sin in secret, God sees it and is offended by it.

That does relate to pornography in several ways.

Firstly, it brings up the idea of secret sins. Sins hidden within. God sees them all.

Secondly... Colossians 3 says '(put away) all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry.'

I.e., when we want and desire something we are engaging in the deifying of it; we worship it as our god, the thing that gives us meaning and hope, rather than the One True God. We are worshipping the created.

It's not a huge leap to apply that to pornography, is it?

But the straightforward meaning of the passage is clear. He was showing the prophet that God sees the secret sins, and that hiding your idols from the people around you doesn't hide them from God.
One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One God and Father over us all.

If it were pornography, how would they see it if they were in the dark?

    Just a thought.
