One night seven years ago
I couldn't get to sleep
I tossed and turned and turned and tossed
Until half past three
And oh I was so tired
Of worrying myself
That though I'd never known Him at all
I asked God for help
So when the angel that He sent me
Told me what to do
I got up out of bed, got down on my knees
And said the only prayer I knew
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
God bless my mom
God bless my dad
God bless my beautiful wife
And the only son I've ever had
God bless my fam'ly and friends
And my enemies too
In the name of Jesus Christ I pray
Amen Thank You
That's the last thing I remember
I slept 'til almost ten
I woke up feeling so good and rested
That I thanked God again
Then just a few days later
On Thanksgiving Day
I was cleansed by the blood of the lamb
And my sins were washed away
I know these words are simple
A prayer a child might say
But all God's children started somewhere
And I still sleep well today
Now I lay me down to sleep
