Taking a good look at Rev. 11

    Rev. 11 tells us what?

    v 1
"And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood saying....measure the temple of God..."

John was to measure the temple. What temple? Is this before or after Titus destroyed the last one? It is after, as items are measured and then made.
God shows the pattern to someone first.

  2. #2
    v2
"But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not..."
The end days temple will be different as to the outer court area.

Till the outer court area is different - we have not yet seen the temple that John wrote about in Rev. 11.

When that temple time comes, so too will come the two witnesses to finish their testimony.

    v 7
"And when they shall finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth...shall overcome them, and kill them."
The two witnesses will be slain by the beast, and that beast can't come till the temple time of the outer court area is different days happens.

Understand a major thing being missed by lots as to Rev. 11 >>>>
it is where an angel speaks to John about end-time events.
John did not watch the two witnesses rise. They don't even rise till the third woe happens that the angel had just told John about. With the 7th trumpet comes that third woe earthquake.

    v 1
    "...the angel stood saying.........................."
This part goes all the way to verse 14.
John never says that he saw any of it, or heard the two witnesses. The angel says -"And they heard a great vcoice from heaven, saying unto them, Come up hither..."
    v13
"And the same hour was there a great earthquake..."
an earthquake - damages the city
the remnant give glroy to the God of heaven

This is the 7th trumpet hour.
The two witnesses rise at the resurrection of the just hour.

How do we know that they are putting on immortality?
Because this happens - "the Spirit of life from God entered into them".
Remember we all get changed at the same time, so the all saints that are dead rise right along with the two witnesses at this earthquake (3rd woe) hour.

And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood saying, Rise and measure the temple of God..."

Let's go on a hunt thru the bible, and see if we find any sort of a situation such as this in the past?

    Ezekiel 40:2
"In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel..."
    v3
"...there was a man,...with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed, and he stood in the gate."
    v4
"...declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.."
This man then measures for a new temple. This measuring continues for several chapters, and then we find this verse.'

    43:10
"Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern."

    v11
"And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof..."

    v13
"And these are the measures of the altar..."
    v15
"So the altar shall be four cubits..."

    Rev. 11:1
...and the angel stood saying, Rise, and measure the temple...and the altar..."
    Why?
Because - a temple is coming one day - and an altar.
    They shall be!

Let's look at when David gave Solomon the pattern.

    1 Cronicles
    28:11
"Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof...."
    v18
"And for the altar of incense..."
    v 19
"All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern."

The church waits for the temple that John measured. We wait for the two witnesses to come and eventually get slain by the beast.

Let's study a bit more what Rev. 11 has about the two witnesses.

    v3
"...and they shall prophesy...clothed in sackcloth."
    v4
"These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the whole earth.
Zechariah chapter 4 tells us also a prophecy as to olive trees and candlesticks.

Zech. 4 - reveals that it is showing that someone finishes something. They started a job and see it through.

    4:9
"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it..."

This chapter soon begins to refer to two anointed ones that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
So two people must have a job that they will come back and finish.

Rev. 11 refers to these two will finish their testimony.

    Rev. 11:7
"And when they shall have finished their testimony..."

okay- there is why they were shown as olive trees and candlesticks

Do you know that Hebrews 11 shows that Enoch had a testimony before he was translated?

I find it interesting too that some try to put Moses in as one of the two witnesses.
first - he sinned - disobeyed God - so he wasn't allowed to enter the holy land
    second -Jeremiah 15 says ~

"Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth."
    v 2
"And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for famine, to the famine..."
similar to what we find in the 4th seal - a rider with several ways to slay people

    third - Moses died
    Moses has nothing to finish.
All of the just will rise at the same time to get immortality.

Take a close read at what happens to the two witnesses, when they rise.

They get that eternal life change that happens when we all change at the last trumpet.

What hour does Rev. 11 tells us it will be when that moment comes to pass?

    the earthquake one!

The two witnesses are slain by the beast during the 2nd woe- but then a few days pass - and they rise at the same hour as an earthquake.

  7. #7
When the angel in Rev. 11 starts to tell John about what hour the two will rise - the angel is speaking of the next hour-the third woe hour.

  8. #8
    What are the two witnesses?
    people

    How do we know that?
They get slain, lie dead, and rise with what shows they are gaining eternal life.

But understand they get their resurrection in the same hour when the earthquake happens.
The angel is just telling John about what is to come. Then lets John know - that the third woe will come quickly.

Some say - the bible never told us what the third woe is.
I say, yes it did - the earthquake.

The angel has told John about the second and third woe hours (two get slain by the beast =2nd woe hour), and they rise at the same hour as the earthquake. The 2nd woe is past - but the third woe cometh quickly.
The angel never said all of that stuff belongs in the second woe. What the angel did do was split them apart - as to showing the earthquake hour is when they rise- that is the same hour that comes after the 3.5 days.

So - that hour comes in the 7th trumpet section of Rev.
When we find that it is then time to judge the dead.

Time of the church - all saints put on immortality.
It will be the third woe - hour - the earthquake hour that the angel told John happens after the 3.5 days.

So please understand that John is hearing an angel prophesy in Rev. 11. This angel tells him about two hours (sections of time) that are coming.

the hour = the two get slain

then time passes - the wicked send gifts to each other

The angel then switches to giving clues as to what happens when the earthquake hour comes.

John has been listening to an angel - prophesy as to the final two woes.

After telling this message -the angel lets John in on how that third woe will come.

    quickly

as in - with the 7th trumpet - things just foretold by the angel as to the hour of the earthquake - will happen quickly

time for the resurrection of the just
time for God's servants to be rewarded

See what Rev. 11:18 has all in it.
It is a verse packed with action.

Please look at the end of Rev. 11. What did you find?

Do you then think that matches up as our lead into chapter 12?

or are we supposed to go to chapter 16 and find that plagues begin?
The plague set that ends with great hail.

The temple that John measured is the New Jerusalem that he saw coming down from God out of heaven.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Rev 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

Rev 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

Revelation 21:10-27 for full description and measurements of the New Jerusalem.

    Temple of God

Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Rev 7:15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

What about the outer court part is to be given to the Gentiles - and that is when the two witnesses will prophesy in Jerusalem?

    There isn't a temple then - just a city.
John did not measure a city.

According to what is written John only measured the temple and the altar and them that worship therein. Is there to be a temple of God and the altar where God is worshiped, in Jerusalem, as the court will be outside?
