Help Making pumpkin pie from scratch??

Ok yesterday my mom brings me this huge pumpkin she got from some Mennonite ladies that had asked a farmer for any extra's he might have for making pumpkin pie. He gave them so many it was too much so they gave some to the chiropractor my mom see's. Anyway from what I am reading and seeing on video's on the net...I am think this pumpkin may be too big to do this..either that or I am going to have pumpkin pies all over the place...

I cannot stand those canned made pumpkin pies...they taste horrible. One time many years ago a co-worker made some by scratch and I actually liked it. So mom thinks I can do this with less then two days before Thanksgiving? She has never made one from scratch that I know of, so I doubt she knows how time consuming it is.

I also have cranberry sauce to make by scratch and fudge. As big as this thing is..I think it would take much longer then eight hours cooking in the oven. Check out this video:

I was trying to find out how to do it before I went to the store so I would know what to get..right now I am kind of freaking out...don't know if I should even try or not...beside the normal stuff I make I have to do laundry tomorrow and get Nate packed (plus get his medication ready in a weekly pill container) for a trip he is going on Friday. Unless someone knows this isn't that time consuming..I don't think I can do it.

    What do you think?

We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; We drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; We drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson

moonglow, from my experience, the small sweeter pumpkins make the best pies. Trying to cut a huge pumpkin and get it processed for pie would be a task to plan ahead of time. I never make pie from the large ones, just do not taste as good, but for what it is worth, that is my experience here in 'bama. Bon appetit'.

Well I looked at it again..its that big...maybe if I cut it in half? Still I don't know...I guess I could experiment with it AFTER the holiday... Then maybe for Christmas I would know what I was doing...

Oh, my mom makes pumpkin pies with real pumpkins, too. They're super good. Unfortunately, however, I do not know how she does it.

Give us half of the pumpkin! Charles just loves pumpkin soup!

    Love you lots,

I use smaller pumpkins...the larger ones are usually dry and stringy. I don't bake the pumpkin, I peel it like potatoes, cut, boil, puree and use it like canned pumpkin. The pies are lighter in color but everyone says they are very good (I don't like pumpkin pie and don't eat it).

I don't know about baking pumpkin pies from scratch, but I do want you to send me some when you are finished.
Please pray for "the least of these" in the Persecuted Church Prayer Forum at top.

Acts 21 Now they have been informed about you that you continually teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn back from and forsake Moses...Therefore do just what we tell you. With us are 4 men who have taken a vow upon themselves. Take these men and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses [for a temple offering],...Thus everybody will know that there is no truth in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself walk in observance of the Law of Moses.
