Thread: Contrite hearts

    Contrite hearts

The Bible talks about how God is near those who have contrite hearts over their sin. Is it possible to have a contrite heart and not cry much? I never get any tears in my prayer sessions, even when confessing sins to God.

Why my friend, why do you like to cry while praying to God? Have you not read in Philippians 3: 18[For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now telling you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ,] 19 Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earhtly things. Please read and pray to understand, Eze, 24 :17 Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of
thine head upon thee, and put on the shoes upon thy feet, and cover not the lips and eat not the bread of men. thanks, RT.

    Hi there

having a contrite heart or being contrite over sin can express itself in different form simply because people are emotionally different. Pslam 51 is an excellent example of having a contrite heart and i probably think King David would be weeping when he was praying this, we can become dull to sins and your concern over this shows you have a good grasp of what it means to have a contrite heart, i too wish i was more sensitive over my crimes against God and i should be weeping over them, even though i dont, mayby i should pray for my hard heartedness over sin to be more sensitive.

    RT,

Paul is weeping because he knows what awaits these workers of iniquity. How did you feel that scripture relates to the original post?

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

    Eze 11:19

I will give them one heart and I will put a new spirit within them; 1 I will remove the hearts of stone from their bodies 2 and I will give them tender heart

    Psa 126:5

Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest

    Psa 119:136

Tears stream down from my eyes, 1 because people 2 do not keep your law.

    2Co 7:10

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

    Rev 21:4

He 1 will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.”

He doesn´t say over their sin, but just a broken spirit, and broken and contrite (crushed) heart; which is the poor in spirit. The result of being in a state of grief and misery is always because of sin, whether it is our own, or the sin of other´s toward us; and for God to be near to such, it must be because of righteousness sake. For when we are contrite for suffering mistreatment because of doing good, this is acceptable with God, but if we are contrite because we have willfully sinned, and are exposed, this is not the case in which God is near.
And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
    Acts 28:24
